Can someone help me with this question?

I have just got an approval letter for ROC from my local office. Thank God for that

And the letter says that I have to get my passport stamped with I-551 at any one of the 3 local offices if I want to travel abroad before I receive the GC.

But there is a problem. These 3 local offices are not open when I'm available and I have little time left between now and when I leave for my vacation in Europe.

So here is my question . . .

Can I get I-551 from an officer at an ASC if I walk-in there with my approval letter and ID shortly before I leave? Has anyone done this sort of thing before? I'd appreciate your advice.

Generally they do not give out I-551 stamps when you are already approved and your green card is on the way.

You cannot get a I-551 stamp from a walk in - you have to make an info pass to get one.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Thank you, Inky! Then here comes another question . . .

Should I have to make an InfoPass at the 3 local offices that they specified? Or can I make an appointment at a different local office? - M

I can't answer for certainty, but I just had an INFOPASS appointment at the Atlanta office and overheard a lawyer talking to one of the workers at the building. The immigration lady said that "emergencies happen" and while they recommend everyone try to get an INFOPASS appointment, if you show up and you don't have an appointment and you have an explanation of an "emergency" that they "really try not to turn any one away". I don't know how far you are from the local locations they specified, but it might be worth it to just go back and hopefully not get turned away.

The lawyer that was talking to the immigration lady in this case was also trying to get an I-551 stamp for her Mexican client who needed to go back to Mexico to visit his sick mother. For some reason, that I don't know, he didn't have his greencard. Sounds like a bit of a similar situation.

You can schedule an Infopass anywhere, but an Infopass is done at a field office not an ASC (though occasionally they overlap) so you won't be able to get a 551 stamp at an ASC. I would just make the appt at whatever field office has availability and bring your approval letter.

Thank you! I'll try to do InfoPass at another field (not ASC) office.

You of course realize that ASC employees are not even working for USCIS, or any other government agencies. These are private companies that USCIS hires to do technical work for them. They are not authorized to issue any kind of documentation for you, nor do they have access to any of the government data apart from what they submit into the government database at the bio appointments.
