You should also make a note if the petitioner is of Indian origin or not. AP seems to be very common for interracial K-1 couples especially when they are going through Delhi.

We underwent mandatory AP for background checks in Delhi.

My husband was the beneficiary and is Muslim. I am white.

We were issued a Mandatory AP letter but no 221(g) which is why I know it was for background checks; they did not require any additional paperwork or evidence. His passport and medical records were retained. All other evidence was returned to us at the interview.

Interview: 03 August 2011

Visa Issue Date: 21 October 2011

Visa Received: 09 November 2011

I had my senator send a request to the embassy on 08 November 2011. They had already issued the visa, but hadn't bothered to mail it.

My husband already had a valid B1/B2 and spend 90 days in 2010 in the US. I made 4 trips totaling 9 weeks to India in 2010/2011 and have a valid tourist/business visa.

I was interviewed in first week of Jan.2012 along with my family at New Delhi US Embassy. After the interview we were given a letter which says " Please bear with us while your case undergoes mandatory administrative processing. We have retained your passports to more quickly process your visa when the processing is complete. When the processing is complete we will send your passports and visa to you via vfs."

This was our second interview. First time we were interviewed in September,2011 than placed in Mandatory administrative process than priority dates retrogressed. In De.2011 US Embassy send our passports back with a letter to bring fresh medical report,PCC from passport office, two recent photographs, new DS-230 Part I and Part II, the letter also says that you may come at any working day at 8.30 A.M.

We called DOS two times and were told that our case was cleared by DOS and processing is only going at New Delhi US Embassy. When they will finish it they will send our passports and visa to us.

It sure felt like an eternity as before joining and reading this forum we were expecting the visa within a week! Now when I see others waiting for months I feel like ours was easy and I pray for others.

I have a cousin who has a student visa and he went though the same thing (been in US for 2 years) in January for stamping. It look 2.5 weeks. My fiancee had similar case (never been to US) on K1 visa and it took 5 weeks. So, every case is different and I am not sure about J1 but thats your estimate!

Thanks

GOD and consulate only know what they are checking! For what we know they randomly pull one file out every day and say "lets clear AP for this" today. Is yours for name check or relationship proof stuff? I hope yours will clear soon. From what I see AP in India rarely goes above 2 months but in some cases it does.
