Thanks but this does not specify that AOS has to be sent before DS-230. AOS just happens to be listed on the left.

You should ask your question in the monthly NVC thread to get the most accurate answer.

Hint: It will be the same as mine.

Don't staple things together. Use clips.

You SHOULD staple the I-864 application together and any tax transcripts/returns by year as per the DOS instructions but you SHOULD NOT staple anything in the DS-230 application.

You can send your DS-230 package when you have it ready to go and the payment portal shows the IV bill as PAID. People in this thread who have been telling you AOS has to be sent first are grossly incorrect. At the NVC, AOS and IV are separate tracks, meaning AOS and IV are processed independently. Typically the AOS bill is invoiced first before the IV bill is invoiced, however, that does not mean the AOS has to be submitted first.

To answer another question you had, don't staple anything.

Also, if the NVC needs something from you regarding your IV package, they will issue you a checklist specifically stating what it is they need. If you do not receive a checklist for any items in the IV package, then your package has been accepted and ready to go to the next step.

All the above is correct. However, if you DO receive a checklist very soon after submitting documents, it probably crossed in the mail. No need to submit the documents twice unless you receive the checklist more than about 3 weeks after submitting the documents.

We sent both packet together..So, they can review them together and nothing will be misplace.

I am sure you can send your DS-230 first if that's what on your hand but you will receive an email from NVC requesting for the AOS Packet...

Yes, you can include a cover letter according to the content of your packet and you don't need to staple them.

God bless and good luck.

The packages are not reviewed together and do not stay together during review. That's why the cover sheet address is to a different department in each cover sheet. If you want to send at the same time, place in separate envelopes and mail to the two separate addresses.

I agree with you that they will go to different department for review.

But we didn't mail it with separate addresses. We had 2 folders ( DS-230 packet and AOS Packet) put in one envelope and mail it to NVC at New Hampshire and everything went well.

You just didn't know about the delay sending them in the same envelope caused. No worries. It was no more than a day or two and in the past now. However, this is bad advise to give others who don't have the delay in the past. Mail separate packages to the exact addresses on the cover sheets.

I am preparing DS-230 for my husband. I am the petitioner. Got a couple questions.

1. Should I include a cover letter? I included one with my I-130 for uscis but I don't know if this is helpful for NVC.

2. Should I staple anything?

3. Is the current address where I will be sending DS-230 to:

National Visa Center

Attn: DR

31 Rochester Ave. Suite 100

Portsmouth, NH 03801-2914

4. I am sending my DS-230 now but I won't be sending AOS till mid march so my case won't be completed till then. However, does NVC send a notification saying everything is okay with the DS-230 after looking over it? Or should I assume if nothing is sent that I have no RFE's for the DS-230.

Thanks VJ!! :star:

I have always found it useful when sending documents in situations like these and any other similar situations to include not only cover letters but also a table of contents. For the intended party, this provides a high-level over-view of what they can expect to see and also aids them in getting to information more quickly. Also, not only has this always aided me in insuring that I have not failed to include anything, but if you keep copies for your own records, in the event one should claim that they did not receive and item, you have a way to provide evidence that you did and to have re-assurance on your end. Also, pertaining to this subject in particular, given all the information that we must provide throughout the immigration process, I have found that if you separate out the information and utilize tabs which correlate to your table of contents this may aid in the review of your file as everything is well orgaized and easy to find. Just suggestions and ideas from personal experience. Best of luck!

I sent them together. And if you send something prior to or are missing something, they will send you an email to let you know. They did that to me. So worst case scenario, if they want one thing before the other, they will just email you to tell you what is missing.

While this is all true, one must understand that the procedures outlined in the shortcuts are the most efficient time wise. Think of it this way. It's as if when you go to the bank, you need to wait in one line to make a deposit and in another line (queue) to make a withdrawal. Yes, you can do both on the same visit to the bank but it takes longer than if you had one person standing in each of the lines. When you send both packages in the same envelope, whichever one is in the wrong queue will wait through that wrong queue until the package that's in that queue is opened and reviewed, then it will get transferred to the correct queue to wait again.

The shortcuts work but short-cutting the shortcuts, defeats the purpose.
