When filling in the affidavit of support is it true that on question 11 (i intend, do not intend to pay... ) is this left blank and in the space provided write N/A k1 visa process applicant ? if not what is put?.. both my fiance and his dad wll be doing the I-134 as my fiance is a student.. thanks

I think most people do like the VJ example when it is the fiance doing the form. In 4 years I have only heard of one person (Graham in 2008) who actually had an officer tell him it should be ticked intend. She even let him tick it at the interview. After that incident it was widely rumored that London requires "Intend" to be ticked. I don't think that's true because others have ticked neither box and were fine. Maybe it was a one-off situation. If your fiance wants to tick "intend" I've know people to write "provide for any and all financial needs of my future spouse."

If someone other than the fiance is being the sponsor, then I think "intend" is appropriate because they aren't going to be your spouse. They can list how they will help like "provide room board, and any financial assistance needed."

I read a good question for this thread concerning form DS-156 and your UK passport.

What to write as a city and province in place of issuance section.

If the passport says IPS as the issuer their home office is London, England. My husband's says something different that I can't recall now but they re-organized and now are called Identity and Passport Services. Same people, new letters. If you got the passport by mail, then London is an okay answer. If you drove to Portsmouth to get one day service, you could list Portsmouth. Some people get passports issues by the British Embassey in Washington, DC. You've got to remember this is a worldwide form and some passports (British) don't list a city of issuance. The good news is, I've known Brits to put all kinds of answers to this question but have never heard of anyone rejected for whatever they listed. It's not going to be an issue.

Go to your NHS doctor and get the immunizations you will need for Adjustment of Status. You can get a K1 visa without having any shots, but you will need them before AOS. It's really wise to take care of it before getting to the US so you can aviold civil surgeon hassles and $$. Many NHS doctors will do them for free, but they are not obligated to do so for immigration purposes. If you had these shots as a child, Tdap/Td must be no longer than 10 years ago or you have to do them again. Get the shots documented by your doctor to take to your visa medical exam. Here's the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

  1. Td or Tdap - Maybe not available in the UK, so get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS
MMR (if born in 1957 or later) Get a second shot 4 wks later if you have time
Varicella – Not routinely given in the UK ; a history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.
Influenza - During flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

 You don't need 2 of all of them but they won't count off for extras so no worries.

Embassy website says only 156 & 157 have to be in duplicate.

Complete the Form DS-230-Part 1, Form DS-156 and DS-157 for each family member applying for a visa. In addition, the principal applicant is also required to complete form DS-156K. Note: Forms DS-156 and DS-157 must be completed in duplicate.

If you haven't mailed yet, it would be a good Idea to make spare copies of all four (if you haven't). A few people have gotten there and were told one of the forms was missing. Handy to have a spare one to pull out.

yeah it needs the barcode on it. quite a few people have a problem getting the DS-156 to do what it is supposed to do... i kept getting an error message when i clicked continue as it seems to have major issues with Firefox... but using a different browser, trying at different times of the day, or even using a different computer quite often fixes it.

yeah press continue, let it do its thing... it can take a while sometimes, then once it has stuck a barcode on the form you can print it out. like has been mentioned by Nich-Nick... it is probably wise to print off an extra copy of all the forms and take them to the interview just in case the embassy misplace one :)

The forms from USCIS to be filled in online are designed for Internet Explorer so using FireFox, Chrome or Safari might throw up the odd error message. I couldn't get any other browser to work with the DS-156 so I switched to Internet Explorer and it worked fine.

Good luck :) You should have nothing to worry about and there are a lot of coffee shops in the area if you need some waken up juice :D

Sorry :P I only found out by visiting the USCIS site and it gave the browser specifications so that's how I found out.

If it makes you feel any better my printer didn't like the DS-230 and was printing it out with one half of the page two inches higher than the other so I had to scan in my rough draft with scribbled notes I printed off at work and then use MS Paint to erase my scrawl and put in text boxes to enter the information, I finally got it printed off after 3am that morning :P
