Long but interesting acticle. Question I have is how any president will be able to deal with this kind of Corporate mentallity. Does not sound like lower Corporate taxes alone will fix the problem.

Perhaps apple is also getting a bit too cocky? They almost sound anti-american.

Lower corporate taxes will not fix it.

The thing about globalization is that it has allowed supply chains to be globalized benefiting the corporation, but protections that give workers power against the corporation have not.

The workers that work at the factories owned by Apple contractors work 72 hours per week at least and live in dorms provided by the company. There are not too many people in the US that would do the same thing. At least not at the price Chinese workers are getting paid. Which is really what "Can't find enough workers in the US" really means.

But in the end, if worker protections such as unions made it to China, it would still mean that the jobs would not come back. At some point the cost of automating will get less than even what the Chinese workers can provide and factories will go that way.

Anyone who keeps making the argument that buinesses need to have special protection because they provide jobs had no idea what the sole responsibly of a corporation is. Hint: Its not to create jobs.

Dirt cheap labor, no labor laws, no having to pay over time, no real worrying about worker safety, taxes, etc... it's all about the profit for these companies. I wouldn't give them jack ####### for a tax break. They could give two sh*ts less about this country and big business shows it's true face time and again.

I have never owned an Apple product nor do I ever so myself purchasing one anytime soon. Over priced for what you get compared to the competition. That and Apple pretty much spits in the face of open source.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The problem is anything else you buy is also produced there. Interestingly enough, when I bought a motherboard in 2001 almost all of them were produced in either South Korea or Taiwan. I really don't think those boards were ever produced in the US after the mid 1990s.

About sums it up:

“Companies once felt an obligation to support American workers, even when it wasn’t the best financial choice,” said Betsey Stevenson, the chief economist at the Labor Department until last September. “That’s disappeared. Profits and efficiency have trumped generosity.”

FAIR TAX

Complete elimination of any form of tax on corporations. You cannot tax a corporation, they merely collect tax...or flee the country, they do not PAY tax. We have to offer the lowest corporate tax in the world...0%

After that the skill of our workers, the strength of our infrastructure and location, the resources of materials will win over the corporations and bring the jobs here.

Illegal immigration has gone too far into your head.

Taxes have nothing to do with why Apple uses Chinese workers to make their products. It's called wages. They pay a Chinese teen a few dollars a day for 12 hour shifts. That is a FANTASTIC deal!

Have you seen the amount the US collected in corporate income taxes? Not much. So little that we could drop it to 0 and we wouldn't notice much of a dip in revenue.

8% of tax revenue is from corporate taxes. Cut it in half, who cares? Drop it to 0.

We get $2.3 trillion a year in tax revenue, what's $181 billion less?

If you read the article it does not sound like a Tax reduction would have any impact. Perhaps Corporations would be influenced by some sort of local headcount incentive. Hire local or else face some kind of opportunity cost ;)

We would James, as we do now. Some rules to follow

1. Corporations cannot stay in business to employ people unless the make a profit.

2. If they make a profit, they did not pay tax, we did.

Increased costs for their products, decreased benefits or pay for their employees and reduced return for their investors is HOW it is collected. Corporations do not PAY tax, corporations (and any business) COLLECT tax, but it increases the cost of their product to do so.

Sure more tax. The problem is not enough tax, how would I have guessed?

I am not suggesting a tax reduction. Lets be very clear. I am suggesting a tax elimination. -0- tax. Read again...-0- tax. What does the article say about that? What does the article say also about the elimination of the cost of complying with tax law? No accountants, no tax attorneys, no IRS audits, no quarterly reports, no withholding and payroll costs. Is that mentioned in the article? No.

When a business moves manufacturing overseas it incurs costs as well as savings. Transportation of raw materials and finished goods is one huge one. Logistics costs go through the roof, training of employees. Because they can pay abusive rates to employees and deny any bemefits, etc, the NET is an increase on profit. A tax REDUCTION of some few percent will not tip the balance. A tax elimination and the elimination of associated costs WILL tip the balance back in our favor.

Read the FAIR TAX book.

You would be more interesting if you spoke truthfully or at least in an informed manner. HALF the SS and medicare tax come from employers, so add that to it. :bonk: Not to mention the COSTS to employers to comply with such taxes. Also much of the "other" is paid by business. Add it up and we see that business is paying (actually collecting at the expense of us) nearly 1/3 of that wheel. Try to keep up.

Read the FAIR TAX book

You are, however exactly correct in why illegal immigrants are hired....save wages and taxes. Odd that liberals woudl think some sort of tarriff on employers that use cheap overseas labor would be a good thing but think that a tax on employers that hire illegal immigrants is a bad thing.

You ARE correct that we could drop it to -0-, that is what I am suggesting. I think it is foolish to suggest that it would have no effect.

I think the same can be said for the American consumer. They once felt an obligation to buy American, but now it is all about what is cheaper.
