F1 Visa and Girlfriend

My girlfriend in India would like to come here to study in an intensive 1 or 2 month English program in the US. Due to a lack of funds and also the benefits to her English she would like to stay with me and my family near the university as opposed to paying for student housing, which she could not afford. We have NO intention of of getting married or in any way circumventing the immigration system. My question is, will she be able to pass the F-1 visa interview? Will the problem of her staying at my place in America be a problem? In particular my family will be sponsoring her and in all honesty she does not have any way of doing this without us due to completely financial reasons. Again, she has no intention of getting married here or trying to circumvent the immigration process, and she has EVERY intention of returning to India after the end of the program. Also, if we decide that she does want to come here after she comes back from India, could this hurt us at all in the K-1 application process?

Yes, having an American boyfriend can most definitely make the process of her getting an F1 visa more challenging. However, there is no real harm in trying - the only way to not get a visa with a 100% certainty is if you don't apply in the first place. As you and your family will be contributing to financing her stay here, she will have to get an affidavit of support from you as part of her I-20/F1 process to show sufficient funds to cover her studies in the US. She shouldn't lie about you - or her relationship to you. Having an American boyfriend doesn't mean automatic denial, but she should be prepared to show ample proof of ties to India and reasons why she is likely to return after her English studies are over.

Applying for an F1 visa should have no bearing on a future K-1 process, whether or not the visa is issued.

Thanks for the reply! The problem is that she has just graduated from college and is currently unemployed. How can she show that she is sufficiently connected to India to come back?

If she wants to visit she should apply for a B2 Visa.

The problem with that is she is just out of college and does not have an income. Also she really does want to do the English program, she was an English major and she wants to be a professor! She does not just want to visit me, I had suggested this to her before we were romantically involved.

The cost of a month in the US I am sure could pay for a year in India.

Just take it to say that there are other concerns which preclude me from returning back to India at this time. Also having been to India I know that's just not true, although you're right in that it is cheaper.

I guess I did not understand your comment. What did you mean by "The cost of a month in the US I am sure could pay for a year in India."? I thought you meant that me going to India for a year would be cheaper than her coming here for a month.

Aha! Well perhaps the price issue is true but the problem you see is that in her province, UP, not too many people speak English, and the ones that do speak a really Indian English that's very hard for non-Indians to comprehend (we mostly talk in Hindi). She would really like to learn American standard English.
