By Allah's Grace I received me visa today!

I... I'm floating, the feeling is so overwhelming despite having fantasized about this day the last 18 months. My journey began in late September 2010, and finally it's reached a point where 'tis now under me control more or less.

Without VJ - this thread in particular, kudos to EAbbas - I don't think I'd have made it with me sanity intact. I consider myself the epitome of the manly man, but I have someone in my life who can move me to tears, and I'm proud to call her mine everyday.

This is difficult; the journey, the love, the wait... but we can all do this. It requires patience and a lot more honour, but it's doable. I'm ecstatic today to get the visa in hand, and I'm extremely proud to call you all my friends, without whom this would have been a hardship. Thank you all and God bless.

Congratulations. 18 months is a long wait. You have passed the ultimate test of patience. I wish you and your soul mate all the happiness and a peaceful life ahead.

Thank you very kindly! =) I still can't believe I called DOS last week and they said it was pending even after it was issued, that is just brutal... but I'm thankful to Allah nonetheless.

I know this question should likely be posed somewhere else - but it seems this post has the most traffic for pakistan related Vjers

For my wife- she has stayed in many placed (more than 6) since age 16 - but has lived in one place for the past 8 -

what do we do for police certificates? get one from ALL those places?? She lives in Lahore - she has lived in Rawalpindi , Skurdu, Multan, Sukur to name a few - as you can see - far away from lahore...

We havnt gotten to the form that asks about that info - or the police certs yet - but i keep thinking - how to do this - how far back should we take this and potentially lengthen the time it takes to get them - im not in pakistan - i visit a couple times a year - but it would be hard for us to go around and get them all in person...

what do you guys suggest we do?

Fact of the matter is unfortunately you may require police certificates from all those places. If I read it correctly, you said she lived in several different cities for more than six months? You may have to get the police certs for that. Do you or your wife have anybody/any connections to someone who works for the government in Pakistan? Maybe he/she will be able to help you out with that. Try calling the embassy as well and see if they provide you some leeway, never hurts to ask. Best of luck!

second - thx for answering the question- yes several cities since 16 - for more than 6 months.

The residence info is completed on the DS-230 corrcct (i think thats the form) and then police certs are matched to the info on that form...

But in a country like pakistan who keeps records like that - from the mid 80s to now?

I want to be straight forward - have been with everything else in my own immigration to the US and also now with my wife's pending immigration - but i dont want to prolong this more than i have to - especially since these things are only current/valid for 6 months.

That brings up a point - lets say she lived in Pindi in 2000, gets police cert for that city now, but lived in lahore since then.

Does she have to get a police cert for pindi AGAIN after the first one expires? Even though she never lived there again?

Yeah Actually i'm very overwhelmed lately.. togetherforever has also been helping some too... Im a single parent until my husband comes and I work full time leaving very little time to do much im exhausted im overwhelmed i struggle and im heartbroken... I dont mean to whine or complain but im just very hurt right now

thank you for wishing to help.. I definitely could use it... so between us three i think we can make sure the updates are done. Togetherforever helped me with this latest one and I made some small changes but i think that we can keep it up working together... thanks!

Cheers, pal. I know what you mean; honesty's always the best policy, but at what cost? From what I understand - and what everybody most about would attest to here - the police certs are a joke since the consulate conduct admin. processing anyway regardless of all that. Even though they don't maintain records here, I reckon since you've already mentioned the name of the cities they'll require you to get the certs. However police certs are valid for a year (I know, they do say only six months on the cert itself, but they last a year as the consulate told me).

To help you with the example she'd only need ONE cert for Pindi for the entirety of her stay(s). If she lived there for six months plus in 2000, then lived there again for six months plus in 2003... only one cert from Pindi police station would be required to cover all that period. I stress this point again; if you know anyone who can help you out at the local bodies/government/bureaucrat level, it'd be a huge assist with all this process. We all know how difficult it is to get something done when it involves one body of the government or another, so with someone helping you this can make the journey a lot easier. EAbbas, this goes without saying but you just need to holler if you ever require a moral support boost, any help with the thread or a need to vent. You're doing a marvellous job hanging in there, I can certainly tell you things'd work out as nothing is permanent in this wicked world, and that include our troubles.
