Hi guys,

So I'm about to file adjustment of status, my hubby is a USC. been married for 10 months but i have been using a fake social security number for 5 months to work. we were saving the money up file, and until that happened we both needed to be earning because money was tight.

i used my real name but a made up social security number. will this come up in the interview? can they see this happened? is my name now in the system? surely any one could have the same name as me.

Any one had a similar experience? or have any advice?

What did you claim your legal status as? What visa are you in the US on?

I assume you told them you were a USC so they didn't ask for work permission?

How did the employer fill out the I-9 form? Not only are you working illegally, your actions have repercussions with the employer and who hired you. Then there is the income and not being able to report it to the IRS and pay taxes on it--so now you have committed tax fraud. I know the AOS fee is $1070, but even at $50 per month you can save up enough to file in two years. For most people $50 per month is less than the cable bill or high speed internet access.

Your name could be a number soon, inmate # ??????????? LOL . Thats was crazy, you can get into a lot of trouble. You better get a immigration lawyer and see if they can dig you out of this mess without getting deported.

In the USA a social security number is YOU. You get it when your a kid and you die with it. And what you really need to worry about now is IDENTITY THEFT charges because if the number you made up is actually someone elses SS number and they find out you used it you are in a lot of hot water. And they will find out because whatever money you earned working is on their record now and when the IRS sends them a nasty letter for not reporting that income thats when your can of worms is going to open.

Perfectly put!!!!!

Hmmm you joined in Feb and this is your first and only post? Seems a bit like a troll.

If you are for real you are in serious trouble. As others have mentioned what you did is identity theft. It is illegal. Assuming you used a valid social you just created a royal mess for the poor person who really owns the number. You will get found out and it will affect your status. Crimes of moral terpitude can result in you going home and never being allowed back into the country. What a seriously stupid risk to take. Why not just do things the legal way in the first place?!

Working illegally isn't a big issue when AOSing based on marriage to a US Citizen. If you lie about working illegally then you will always have to worry that they will find out and revoke your immigration benefits (even Citizenship).

What is the problem for you is that you probably marked that you're a US Citizen on the I-9 and that is a serious crime (actually the worst in USCIS's eyes) which carries a lifetime entry ban and makes you deport-able. No real chance of overcoming this with a waiver either, there are high profile cases where adults claimed a child was a US citizen and that child is now banned for life and every attempt to overcome it has been shot down.

Don't waste your money filing AOS if you marked US Citizen...

tsk..tsk..tsk..You think about saving money for your AOS, it's so clear that's not gonna happen anymore. I don't think IRS will tolerate what you did and will not file a case against you. It's a sad thing you didn.t do things legally. My advice better find a lawyer to help you ...
