Hey to all :)

I am currently in the states on my CR1 visa,, no mail so far but today... I just received an I 797 notice in the mail, actually got 2. I understand this is the approval notice. It includes my alien number and some other info. Is this what I need to go get my SSN maybe? Or drivers license?

or am I still waiting on other mail from the USCIS?

Thanks for any help!!

perhaps is just the mail, catching up with you ?

There is no 'approval notice' after arrival in the USA with an I-797 formletter.

There are 'other' things, other notices, like 'card production ordered' but

Read them again, tell us EXACTLY what the wording 'says' - yes?

Now, to GET yer SSN - what you need, is

YER PASSPORT and a BIRTH CERTIFICATE

get down to the local SSN office, and apply, but

ask the clerk - do you FIND ME IN THE SAVE database, or not?

if the answer is no, come back in a week, try again.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

My POE is 10/30 (around your POE - I guess it is 11/01) and I haven't yet received anything from USCIS. I will update if I receive something - welcome letter or Green Card or SSN card.

For SS card, you will also need an original of your marriage certificate if you changed your name to your husband's name and want to use that name on the SS card, drivers license, bank account, getting a job, etc, etc

Well, here it comes than: I got 2 I-797C Notice of Action. One with Notice type : Welcome letter. Another one with notice type: Receipt notice - fee previously collected. They state my aliennumber and the dates are recent, after my arrival in the US (Nov. 9th). One letter says wait for another 30days and you will hear from us again, the other one says welcome to US, etc etc ... bottomline 'although this application has been APPROVED...'...

So, this is what i got from USCIS.

I just wonder what's next.

Checked case status online with the receiptnumber from these letters. : it says DECISION.

thats all.

Advice please?

want an SSN soonish? review post #2.

Don't forget, the I-551 stamp IN YOUR PASSPORT serves as a temporary, 1 year duration, green card.

Get an SSN? Have an I-551 Stamp in passport? WOW - you can work !
