What kind of do-it-yourself skills do you have (around the house, car, etc.)

37 members have voted

  1. 1. What can you do yourself around the house/car (check all that apply)

    • I can change a tire
    • I can do a motor swap on a car/truck
    • If I took a look under the hood of a random car: I COULD NOT identify the alternator
    • I can paint
    • Drywall repair
    • Remove kitchen cabinets and install new ones
    • Electrical repairs
    • Plumbing repairs
    • Flooring (remove floor and install new floor)
    • Change a front clip (bumper, fenders, hood)
    • I would have trouble installing a ceiling fan
    • I would have trouble or COULD NOT change the light bulb of a car headlight

I don't consider myself a handyman or anything, but there's really nothing hard about auto/home repairs. It can be a big project and quite a PITA at times, but most stuff around the car/house is pretty simple, especially if you have the right tools. (Which, for changing a tire, should've come with your car.)

Use a block and tackle, or a come-along.

Those would have been good additions to the poll.

Have you ever heard of a block and tackle?

Have you ever heard of a "come-along"?

Have you ever heard of a cherry picker? etc.

I replaced a thermostat in an old Datsun once, but that was years ago. I remember the old days when you could change your own oil and dump it into the ground. Now used oil and old tires are recycled, so it doesn't make sense to do it at home.

You dumped it on the ground? Sheesh!

You can turn the used oil in where you bought it, most garages, or at drop off locations.

Maybe you were already living in Kalifornia in the 70's. This was a small hick town in Arizona that thought recycling was a communist conspiracy.
