Hey all..

Just needed some advice. USPS have not delivered any of the original documents sent via post by my fiance :( Is there any chance copies of tax returns would suffice or would he have to get his hands on originals? I noticed on another thread that the OP got theirs notarized. Should we do the same?

Also, on the i134 form itself, q.11 asks for 'intent' which is fine but for a K1, does he need to write something like "I intend to support 'x' financially upon her arrival US..." I read somewhere that for a K1 visa, we could leave it blank but I just need confirmation from those who have been through the process recently.

And finally, in the signature bit, does he sign his name or does he print his name which acts as his signature?

The interview is coming up on 15th August so I am as nervous as hell. In hindsight, the questions might come across silly but right now, any help would be appreciated!

I believe they need to be originals and I believe the tax return has to be notarised, it says so on the embassy website. BUT I don't know how strict they are about that. My SO signed his signature on the form.

If he can't get the necessary documents to you in time (but there's still time to try) you should attend the interview with all you've got, they'll either accept it or they won't, but if theres a missing doc they need then they'll send a courier to collect it once its in your hands, you wont be denied and you wont have to come back for another interview.

We have everything together except for the original tax documents..We'll get the copies notarized anyway and see what happens. Could you please provide me a link of the information on the embassy website? I've been searching but I cant see it.

I don't think you have to have the ITR, W2 or other related documents for the I-134 notarized. I had before been in that impression it should be notarized. However, upon reading the Eligibility letter from the state Dept. It didn't state there that it should be notarized since the petitioner is held under ought and will be liable of perjury if and when they give false statement or documentation. Wat my fiance did was to scan the documents in PDF format and share it on my end through file sharing. However thou, the I-134 should really be original containing its original signature. Correct me VJ's if I am wrong!

It seemed like embassies of different country plays different set of rules. In the USEM here in the Philippines, we are not opted to furnish a notarized copy.

Well, I called the embassy and a lady there advised me that notarized copies are fine for now(she confirmed this with another colleague) however, she told me that we will need originals for AOS. I'll just take originals for everything except for the tax documents. Here's hoping they actually show up in the next 6 days!

As for question 11, the intent one, I actually don't know what you're meant to put. Does anyone know?

Can't speak from experience as we've not reached this stage yet but in the wiki it says

I-134 London likes Q.11 to state 'intend to support'. Suggested phrasing is: "whatever sums necessary to ensure the beneficiary does not become a public burden."

The only "original" tax return is a paper one you mail in to the IRS (if not e-filing). So anything else is actually a copy. A signed copy or photocopy of a signed copy is good. Notarization of tax returns and the I-134 form was dropped. We did notary in 2008 and the end of the I-134 form had a place for it. Now the form is a new version with a "I swear this is true" kind of statement and no notary needed. Tax return notary was dropped before 2008 because we didn't do it but there was old talk of it.

London webpage about notary has not been updated in all these 3 years when the rest of their pages were. No notary needed EVER in this whole process including AOS and removal of conditions. Exception might be a father's permission to allow a child to leave the country.

The "I intend" part of #11 is London lore because one guy named Graham had a new conoff ask. Many others have followed the VJ sample form and checked neither and wrote N/A K1 fiance visa

Is it totally okay to leave Q11 unchecked and blank then? They won't raise a flag at the interview?

I did mine exactly like this VJ sample http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-I-134.pdf --no tick and the exact statement. I thought the form was applicable to other visas and not just a spouse (fiance), where a sponsoring person might be actually giving "specific" contributions (read the question). So it made sense to me that in that kind of non-spouse might lay out a "specific" allowance like $200/month, an apartment, a car. Whereas a spouse (fiance) will pay for everything and it is not limited to a "specific" contribution. It takes the same amount to time to tick I intend and write I will support my future wife with anything she needs in the US. And I think if you copy the VJ sample form, it would be okay too.

Will search for that thread from Graham...........

Aha! Here's the infamous thread that started the rumor that London absolutely requires you to say intend. I think it was a one-off situation with somebody new or a substitute. I actually haven't heard it mentioned since.
