Has anyone had to do a Beneficiary - Child and Mother DNA Test

HI,

I had a RFE for additional proof that my wife's son is really her son. She had to do a late registration for birth certificate and she can't get much in the line of medical records and such. I would like to do a DNA test just to avoid any future problems. Has anyone had experience with this, specifically, How long did it take for the embassy to schedule the appointment for the sample collection?

Thank you!

Well, first of all you have to wait for the outcome of the interview if the consul will still recommends DNA test, it's something you shouldn't done prior to her interview cos the lab company will require a letter from the embassy where DNA was recommended for immigration purposes.

But...

Since USCIS needs proof of sanguinity between your wife and son, then you can do the DNA test as it is a proof but I dont think you can present the results also to the embassy. All you have to do is to contact AABB accredited lab to do the DNA analysis and complete their requirements (one of which is a copy of the RFE letter stating the request of sanguinity between your wife and her son).

Whe requested a trio package before for the DNA (mother, daughter, father).

Thank you for the reply.

The question that I am really asking is:

After you paid AABB, how long until the appointment for the sample gathering at the Manila embassy? Then how long did it take to get the results?

Thank you again!

After you paid the lab? Well, they send the kit thru fedex (so, around 3-7days to get it to the embassy). SLEC will let you know when will your wife and son be sampled after they got the kit forwarded by the embassy. Then, they will ship it back to the lab in the US thru fedex, so it takes another 3-7 days to get the specimen there. And it takes like 3days to get the results. Good luck.

My wife and I were not aware of the problems in the Philippines with fraud and the requirement for DNA testing. I have learned a lot about it from the forum but still have some questions. My wife had a baby out of wedlock but the father is not on the birth certificate. She was young and confused and did not register the baby early but did do it about three years ago. Then when the caretakers for her died, we petitioned for the child to come to the U.S. I am a USC and my wife a permanent resident so we filed under USC as it is supposed to be quicker. My wife flew over and took her daughter to the medical and then they had the interview on 12/06/2011 and that was the first we had heard about a DNA test. It took us by surprise, nothing had been mentioned in advance so we did not know where to turn. The embassy told her they would send the information to me. I am in Texas. NOthing has been heard as of this posting.

My questions are: How long does it take the Embassy to send the letter requesting the DNA test?

How long before the Embassy calls the mother and daughter into the Embassy for the test swabs?

How long does it then take to be sent back to the approved lab in the U.S., the test to be done, and results returned to the Embassy?

After the second interview with DNA evidence, how long does it take to receive the visa for the child?

I learned already that there is nothing we can do but wait. My questions are mainly to determine if my wife should remain in the Philippines for the entire thing or does it take long enough that she could fly back her and then return to Manila. We are not wealthy and she is having to stay in hotels and eat out as the child does not live near Manila but on Mindanao. We have already decided to keep them together over the holidays and wait until the test kit is sent to have the draw done. If the time of the draw to the test and return appointment, we will leave her over there until it is over. We have to look for another place to put the child since the caretakers have died and those cousins who took it over have turned it into a very unsanitary, bug infested domicile.

We ended up satisfying the RFE and hopefully will not need the DNA test. But I contacted aabb lab which are the only labs approved for the testing, they said it's $440 for the test and as soon as you pay it, they express mail the kit to the embassy, but they also need the letter requesting the test. The woman I talked to at the lab wasn't much help as far as timelines go, she just said, "Depends."

Sorry I can't help.

My wife is still in the Philippines but returned to Mindanao due to high hotel costs in Manila. She has been there since Nov. 15.

The Embassy no longer allows anyone in the Philippines to administer the test. It can only be done by AABB approved labs in the U.S. I have contacted one in Los Angeles and they have done a lot of them for the Philippines. They told me the total cost is $680.00 for the shipping and for the testing but they do not do the sample taking. That is done after the Embassy receives the kit from the U.S. Lab. They will call my wife and her daughter into the presence of an Embassy official, probably the same one that did the interview, and he will have St. Lukes personel do the draw and seal them up. Then the Embassy mails it back to the lab. Both my wife and daughter must have their passports for identification when the draw is taken. The lab told me the entire procedure is about 1 to 2 months on their part and I can pay them by credit card. St. Lukes charges 1500 pesos to do the draw at the Embassy but are no longer allowed to do the test due to a lot of problems with fraud at St. Lukes I am told.

After sending a polite email to the Manila Embassy requesting an email copy of the letter they sent by snail mail two weeks ago, I got it today and within two hours had it into the hands of Universal Generic Labs in Los Angeles to get the ball rolling, They will sent the test kit to the Embassy and the Embassy will notify St. Luke's and they will coordinate an appointment for the sample draw. This lab seems to be very familiar with the requirements of the Manila Embassy and the chain of custody required. They also try to have the test done within 3-5 days after receiving it.

Due to the horrific storms on Mindanao and the flooding my wife wants to return from there to Manila to await the swab samples. She will be going there shortly after New Years.
