We just sent in the IV package and the AOS package together, had everything included. But then they sent us an email, and we called, they said the I 864 was signed with black ink! And it said on the paper, black or blue ink, so now we have signed it again, and sent in a new one with blue ink... Anyone knows why's that? Is it going to delay the process ALOT? I signed the DS 230 package with black ink, are they gonna say that that's not correct either?? We're so confused right now, we believed that we have sent in everything and done everything the right way. Thanks for reading this, appreciate your help.

The U.S. Government is looking to change the legal color of all signed documents to blue ink as it is getting harder and harder to tell if a blank ink signature is a true ink signature or a high quality scanned signature.

I heard this a couple of weeks ago. What the above posters have said is correct, they don't want you to sign in black because it almost looks like it's photocopied.

I just sent both of my packets today and almost every signature was in a black pen. I hope they're not getting too strict on this and will let it fly. I'm sorry this is going to take a bit longer for you =(

yeah, I know, just sucks that they didn't tell us sooner, so that we would have made sure to sign in blue. I signed the DS 230 in black aswell, but I dunno if I have to send in those one more time. This will delay everything with atleast 20 days, and I can't stand that thought.... Thanks for your help guys..

They actually gave you an RFE because you used black ink????????

Geez, have they gotten pedantic or what? It's ridiculous. Black and blue have always been acceptable...I used black ink on my forms only six months ago and didn't have a problem. Man, this process is getting insane.

Seriously ?!? I signed my AOS form in black ink and sent it in a few weeks ago and they haven't said anything to me. My husband signed his DS 230 in black ballpoint which looks original as it came out sort of grey on the paper- I hope they are OK with that. My job requires me to check validity of signatures and I can tell you that it is not that hard to deem a signature a "wet signature". If they want blue they need to say BLUE!!!!

All the opinions in the world about black ink don't matter at all--all that matters is they didn't accept it, and you had to change it to blue. We used black without a single problem, but based on your case alone, it seems that everyone should use BLUE--no since taking any risks going forward.

Silly--of course--but no sense fighting it.

Now send in two copies one signed in black and one in blue. If you have a red pen and a purple one, go ahead get creative. Send him some in crayon too.

Put a tampon in the envelope with it. :)
