Fastest 10 minutes of your lives folks.

My appt was at 1:40 - we arrived about 20 minutes before (the interview letter says no more than 30 before). Good thing - the line for the office was out the door. took us at least 15 minutes to get through the outer doors and then through security.

No big deal - put your purse through the xray machine and walk through the metal detector. No knives, tweezers, scissors, not clippers - leave them in the car or at home. Cells, Kindles and Nooks were allowed. I had a water bottle which they asked me to take a drink of - as proof it wasn;t a chemical I suppose.

Presented my letter, took a seat - waited about 15 minutes until the IO called my name. She barely whispered it and when I walked up to ask if she'd said my name, just nodded her head and gave me a snotty look - you can see where this is heading. Husband asked to wait as expected.

The IO's bedside manner was that of a small cockroach - nasty look, bored voice - obviously interviewing me was a chore. Went through the application, confirmed my 2 recent trips since sending my application and I blanked on my own cell number, of all things - couldn't remember that darn number - my mind was dead :)

Asked to see - my GC, my state id, our marriage cert, any other marital evidence - I provided a bank letter, copies or recent bills, tax transcripts (she did ask about 2010 since I only had 07, 08 and 09 but I told her I had not brought our return and that the IRS didn't have the 2010 transcripts available yet - she was satisfied)

Did NOT ask for - my husband's passport or birth cert or state id. His divorce decrees from former marriages or anything else.

Wrote: The President lives in the White House. I had to read a sentence, but cannot remember what it was.

Asked the first 6 questions - and she didn't even know the answer to #1 so she picked up a printed copy of the 100 questions to see if I'd answered correctly.

Cannot remember the 6 questions - I have drawn a total blank. She provided an oath letter for next Tuesday (today's had already started :( ) AND THEN CAME OUT WITH ME AND ASKED MY HUSBAND "Your wife can't seem to remember her own cell number, do you know it?"

With great restraint I decided not to smack her upside the head for being such a b*tch.........seriously she would never get away with treating a customer like that elsewhere. She'd be fired.

Not one smile, no 'congratulations'....my husband mentioned other interviewers did seem quite jovial and positive when the interviews were done so I lucked out with PMS girl I guess.

For the Oath - she did mention I need to bring my GC of course, but also all EAD or AP's I've ever received from them - I told her I probably didn't even have them anymore but I would attempt to find them.

I had bad experiences with women as well.

Luckily my I.O. was a man. A proud black man with excellent manners. Very professionally, he even wore a white shirt and a tie and his name was Mr. Washington. Can praise the way he conducted the interview highly enough. We even joked how ridiculous the tests really are and shook hands like old friends from the deep south. Wanted to ask him about green fried tomatoes but forgot.

Welcome to America.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Congratulations!!! At least is over now!!! I was praying not to get a woman just because almost every bad experience I have read the interviewer was a female. I can't complaint about the IO's I saw at Federal Plaza. They were like 4 more people from my country that passed the interview too and were very pleased with their interviewers. Even the security guard at the room's entry was wishing good luck to everyone! I remember that he was even joking with an old lady that was still studying the questions while waiting to be called. He asked her " Do you know the name of the first presidente?.... Remember it wasn't Barack Obama..LOL it was too funny!!

Congrats again!! You deserve a good night sleep!!

Oooh, we're going through Fairfax as well. Sorry you got the PMS girl.

On a brighter note, the interviewer we had for AOS in Fairfax was a nice woman. I think she was originally from Eastern Europe somewhere, based on her accent.

Congrats!!!

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!
