Well, after what seems like forever, I've decided to register and say hello as my and my Fiancé embark on the K1 journey, and I think the main thing to say is

We are both utterly terrified of everything. I'm a 25 year old IT worker type thing from Wales in the UK, and she's a 21 year old Texan. We met online a little over a year ago, and we've met in person a few times now. In fact, as I write this, she's on an Air Canada flight going back to Dallas and yesterday I dropped onto one knee and proposed

Neither of us have the slightest idea of what we need short of 'a visa' and like I said above, we're both terrified! Our main concerns are the fact that our evidence is all electronic, skype conversations, even e-ticket receipts, and of course, we're both terrified of the interview or being accused of a sham marriage...

... it's daunting to say the least, and it's not made easier by the fact that she is currently struggling to find a job due to some hardship. Whilst I'm in a financially better situation it's sounding like we're going to have to delay until she can get a job and save. In fact, it's all rather pathetic, I lost my job three years ago, and had to move back in with the parents, having only about a year and a half ago, managed to get a job that pays enough for me to start saving money and she left university and a job, and couldn't find anything!

Suffice to say, we know we're going to have to wait a bit, but neither of us are unemployable!

We know we want this, and we are determined for it to happen since I fell in love with her, and Texas. At least I can use some of my financial situation to visit a few more times and get the 'evidence' needed.

Any words of advice, any help, is all appreciated and seeing the stories, timelines and guides everyone has put together is heartwarming to say the least,

Congratulations on your engagagement Breath It's going to be ok. This site is an excelent resourse. On it you will find the names of all the forms you and your fiancee will need to fill out. The official versions of these forms can always be found on the USCIS.gov website. Step 1 is going to be collecting all the evidence for your initial packet (your I129f packet). It's very important that all forms are filled out completly and truthfully (but if you fill them out exactly as the examples on this site shows you will be fine).

Electronic evidence should not be a problem. Just have printed copies of everything. My fiancee and I had ALL digital and electronic copies. Our photos were hard copies of pictures taken with digital cameras, our plane tickets were electronic boarding passes / email confirmations, our conversations, email, and letters were ALL in electronic format. Fortunatly the consulate / uscis realizes that this is how people communicate these days. There simply aren't going to be formal letters written on monogramed stationary "Dear Miss Pennyweather, please send my deepest regards to Mr. and Mrs. Pennyweather for me. It would be delightful to get together for a rousing bout of tennis on the fortnight".... it's just not how poeple communicate this day in age. So dont worry about that. Do yourself a huge favor. Go through all the reasourses on this site, put your packet together, and as a UK filer PLEASE find the profile / document of Nich - Nick. It is by far the best document I have ever seen and will detail the process when going through this process with the UK consulate. I will see if I can find a link to this document and post it. You can literally print it out and use it as a check list. It's an awsome resourse.

On the financial end of things... well if she doesn't have kids and you aren't bringing over any children she only needs to make about 18 - 20 k a year. So it's not a devestatingly high income... alos if you have savings, if her parents are willing to cosponsor, these are all things that will ease the financial burden / stress, but seriously even if her income is 1 dollar a year over the 125% poverty line you're fine and don't need anything else.

Good Luck on your journey...trust me with your lady by your side it will all be worth it. My advice is to sit down with your fiancee get all your documents / evidence in order, go through the nichnick document and try to relax. You've got about 5 months of waiting ahead (but you can visit, and so can she). Take care - Rich

Congratulations on becoming engaged!! That's great!

The K1 process is a lot to learn, but it is relatively simple. (Visajourney is great!).

Are you going to start the process now? Or wait until she finds a job? Have you thought about having someone else co-sponsor? You don't need to show proof of income until the interview stage in London, which is a few months after applying.

Using your funds to have another visit sounds like a great idea if you can do it! As for evidence...you should have passport stamps you can photocopy. Someone else should be able to give advice on evidence for your situation.

First off, thank you both of you, I'll just reply here rather than hit the quote button and fill up the page, but thank you both of you.,

Breezy & Me, Thanks so much for the words of advice, it certainly makes me feel a little better, and the link, I'll be searching around tomorrow once i get back from work, and the financial side really is the major headache at the moment. Hopefully she wouldn't have any issues earning the 18-20, although I'm not sure about her parents cosigning or backing us given their own situation.

Helen - I think what we're going to do to be safe, is get her a job while she's in Texas, save like crazy for a few months to give us some reserves, and then apply. It'll give us more time to research, and of course more opportunities to see one another. With her living in Texas near Dallas, it seems to be advantageous, her location and proximity to local offices seems to really be a good thing. We may simply file the moment she gets a job, however I'm in two minds about it, since the last thing we want is a decline which could affect things if we try again.

I would ask her but she's on a plane right now.....

*phwew* I'm excited, scared, nervous, all of the above but I know it'll be worth it!

My husband lived in Scotland for 3 years and used buses...he is from Alaska...one of the first things he did when we got to Alaska (after sending the K1 packet off) is buy a truck! Even I am comfortable driving it now. (although the price of gas does not make owning a truck easy)

Congratulations again! And, use this time to read read read so that you can make a good choice about what visa to apply for and when. I found it a wee bit stressful until we actually decided to do the K1 route...after that it was a breeze. (and VJ is a great reseource!)
