I received an email yesterday with case status: Post Decision Activity

Today, I received another email with case status: Acceptance

Yesterday:

Application Type: I129F , PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Your Case Status: Post Decision Activity

On May 19, 2011, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

Today:

Your Case Status: Acceptance

On May 20, 2011, a duplicate notice was mailed to you regarding a decision on this case, or describing how we will process the case if it is still pending. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your case is at our VERMONT SERVICE CENTER location. If this I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) is still pending, you will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move and this case is still pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During the acceptance step USCIS reviews newly received applications and petitions to ensure that they are properly filed (i.e. signed by the applicant, appropriate fees, etc.) USCIS issues a receipt number for the application or petition, and sends a receipt notice to the applicant or petitioner.

Applications and petitions that are not properly filed are rejected with an explanation of why the application is rejected and the corrective action needed. Rejected applications or petitions do not retain their filing date.

The acceptance step is typically completed within 2 business days of when the application is received. With mail time it may take several weeks for you to get the receipt or rejection notice in the mail. If you do not receive your notice within 30 days of mailing your application, please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

I called USCIS, got a human, and she simply read me the same script and then told me no one else can give me anymore information regarding my case. She said the only way to reach VSC is to write to them.

Any ideas?

You should get the notice in the mail in a couple of days. I wouldn't put too much into the status on the website or what the operator told you.

Thanks for your prompt reply. It's just weird. Both notices came via email and text message, and then I checked online before calling USCIS customer service.

I was afraid it's one of those decision reversal deals: someone changed their mind after the petition was approved.

Or, a data entry person had a typo when entering my case number or someone else's case number.

I guess I'll just have to wait for the hard copies to know for sure

Update:

I called USCIS again this afternoon, and got escalated to someone who could tell me something.

She said their computer system has been having problems lately

As far as she can tell, my petition has not been approved Great!!

She told me to call back sometime next week to see if their system gets an update with the correct status.

Well, looks like I'm the first one at VJ to be experiencing this. I guess I shouldn't have celebrated until I received the NOA2 in the mail

System error... darn, that stinks. Sorry to hear you have to deal with this, and I hope they fix it quickly so others aren't teased in the same manner.

Yes, this kind of system error is nerve-wracking and emotionally devastating to say the least. It's also a very cruel joke

Thank you for your well wishes. My fiancee and I are looking at the positive side, believing in the first email and ignoring the second.

Hopefully we'll get our approval letter in the mail soon.

I'm glad the tier 2 rep at USCIS told me to call back next week instead of 30 days later. She is well aware that this is a problem with their system because she couldn't give me anymore info besides what the computer told her yesterday. I'll be calling USCIS next week until I get a satisfactory answer and will post my findings here

The text messages said my case was updated. Exactly 2 minutes later, I received the email. I posted the main part of my emails word-for-word in the original post above.

I tried to figure out if they sent me two approval NOA2's in the mail or if they decided they need more time to process my case. Either way, I can't see my case being kicked back to step 1 (Acceptance). I couldn't figure out, so I called USCIS. It didn't take me long at all to speak to a person on Friday. All she (tier 2) could tell from her screen was that my petition hasn't been adjudicated

yeah you are right..we haven't get any email or text for approval...just in USCIS site.. since i read your post,i can't help checking and checking the USCIS site

This is basically just the e-mail acceptance and you will get the actual "paper letter" of acceptance within a few days. I got mine 3 days later. Then wait about 5 days and call NVC 603-334-0700 and ask them for your NVC case #. Then it takes on average 20-30 days (depending on processing time) before it is sent to consulate. Normally it is sent to consulate and received within 3-5 business days after that! Hope this helps

That helps a lot if you are confirming what you got is what I got

I've never heard or read of anyone else at VJ receiving 2 emails in 2 days.

Are you saying that my first email was for "petition approved at VSC" and my second email says "accepted at NVC"?

So, in your case, you got an "NOA2 letter" and an "acceptance letter" in the mail a few days after you got those 2 emails?

I'm still a little confused as to what "acceptance" means: accepted by whom and for what, since the petition was accepted back in December 2010 and supposedly processed and approved a few days ago
