I was wondering what method it was shipped? Priority with tracking or regular first class mail?

I was reading this http://murthy.com/news/n_secmal.html and wondered if they began implementing this already given the number of cards that go missing...

Secure Mail Initiative for Green Cards and EADs

Posted 04.Mar.2011

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has advised that, under the Secure Mail Initiative (SMI), they are utilizing the United States Postal Service (USPS) delivery confirmation tracking service. This service applies to permanent resident cards (Form I-551, or "green cards") as well as the employment authorization documents (EADs). A summary of the USCIS instructions for tracking these important mailings follows. This extra measure to provide tracking information on the EAD and green card (I-551) benefits many and increases national security. The EAD and green card both are critical documents for many MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers.

USCIS to Monitor Tracking Numbers from USPS

Under SMI, each EAD and green card mailing receives a tracking number from the USPS. The service applies only to the physical, plastic cards themselves - not to the paper receipt, approval, or other related notices. One who believes that s/he has been approved for these benefits, but has not received the card, can call the USCIS customer service number (1.800.375.5283). The representative will provide the USPS tracking number and current tracking information. With the tracking number, delivery can be followed online (http://www.usps.com).

Signature Not Required on Mailings

The SMI system confirms delivery to a particular address. The mailings do not require a signature for delivery. Envelopes can still be lost, but it will be possible to determine that the delivery was made. If this occurs, it is possible to make a delivery inquiry though USPS customer service.

Processing Times for EAD and I-551 / Green Card

This system provides better protections and tracking for key immigration documents. Individuals should be mindful of standard EAD processing times before checking tracking information. The USCIS generally processes EADs within 90 days.

Green cards are usually issued quickly following approval. The online system normally has an indication of "card production ordered" following the issuance of an approval notice. Tracking should be checked if the card has not been received and the required steps have all been completed.

I have a lot of trouble with my local post office or rather one relief postal worker who delivers while the main carrier is away. Which he is this week, and I'm expecting the card as I've gotten the approval notice via email.

Thanks for any replies!

Do they send them from VSC (or CSC if that's your center) or do they process them elsewhere?
