temporarily close, our operations are running as normal. Officers will interview

applicants as before and base their decisions independent of events since January

25th.

CG Powers: (08:13) With respect to your immigrant visa interview, you will receive

a letter informing you of the date and time of the interview appointment. Once

the immigrant visa is issued, you will need to travel to the US within 6 months.

CG_Powers: (08:16) No. Each case is reviewed individually, and visas are issued

to all qualifying applicants. Obviously, the number of issuances varies each day.

CG_Powers: (08:19) Good afternoon and welcome! The Consulate of the United States

of America in Cairo is pleased to have the opportunity to interact with you, the

Egyptian and American public today.

Michael 3: (08:20) Hello. I traveled in 1995 to the United States with my parents

to visit my relatives (my aunts) and we came back after 18 days and almost got the

visa without any calls from my relatives, and of about two months died One of my

aunts, and now I want to travel to check on her children and vision for the rest

of the relatives and reassuring them, do I need in these days the invitation of my

aunt? And any application should dictate? With the knowledge that I am I have my

own project and a statement of account of me and some properties such as apartment

and car, and the duration of the visa that I want the month at the most.

USA. My dad & my mum took their visa EXCEPT me.

CG Powers: (08:21) I am not certain of your question. In order to travel to the

US, you will need to apply for and receive a visa. The fact that your parents

have visas will be taken into consideration in examining your visa application.

consulate didn't keep my passport and told me i am in Administrative processing,

is that of any indication

CG Powers: (08:23) We did not keep your passport in view of the fact that it is

not possible to predict the amount of time required for completion of the

administrative processing. While waiting the completion of this mandatory

processing, you are able to travel with your passport. When the processing is

finished, we will request that you send your passport to the embassy for visa

issuance.

sherif 3: (08:24) The National Visa Center is saying it DID NOT recieve

correspondant from the embassy that it is open now??

CG Powers: (08:24) NVC has been informed that the embassy is open for full visa

services, and they have begun forwarding files to us for adjudication. We are

making every effort to clear up the backlog due to the suspension of services as

quickly as possible.

Red Rose: (08:25) Q: My daughter was added to my passport and she was granted a

visa. Now she has her own passport. Does she have to apply for a new visa? (visa

with multiple passports)

CG_Powers: (08:25) No, your daughter’s visa is still valid and she will be able to

travel with you with her new passport and the visa in the parent’s passport. If

she wishes to travel alone, then she will need to apply for a visa for her new

passport.

Michel Awad: (08:27) hello when my wanted to apply for visitor visa to visit me in

the US they asked to submit proof of status such as green card or photocopy of

passport but i dont have them yet and my case is pending so can she use my

American ID or EAD card as proof of status?

Rita: (08:28) Q: I have a valid b1/b2 visa on my passport and I want to apply for

a J1 visa. Can I have both visas on my passport or will the b1/b2 be canceled?

CG_Powers: (08:28) Yes. You may several classifications of visas as long as your

meet the requirements for issuance.

Umm-Yusuf: (08:29) when the immigration visa (DV Lottery) meeting schedule

updated?is it weekly or monthly ?& when interviews will start for 2012 Dv Lottery

program?

CG Powers: (08:29) Interview for DV 2012 will not commence until October 1. You

will be informed directly by KCC of your interview date and time. These

notifications are sent out as the dates are fixed and as long as there are still

DV available.

hany: (08:30) i'm married from american citizen and we apply the i 130 and then

they sent it to the nvc and have my case number and they accept it for how long

now i have to wait to have the interview?

doctor: (08:31) i will travel to USA to do exam usmle step2 cs there , what is

requirment for visa ?can my visa refused ?

CG_Powers: (08:31) You should apply for a B1/B2 visa. There are no special

documents required for submitting an application. You should be able to

demonstrate that you have the necessary funds to cover your proposed visit, as

well as demonstrate that you intend to return home following the visit. In

addition, it may be helpful, though not required, to bring confirmation of your

exam date/location, as well as proof of previous step exams you have taken.

Badry: (08:32) I think if someone got a green card and he is married his wife and

kids can follow but how about if I have a returned residence status would that

apply to me ?

CG Powers: (08:32) If you are a returning resident, you can file immigrant visa

petitions on behalf of your wife and children once you are back in the US. They

will not be able to travel with you until they receive immigrant visas.

Riham: (08:33) Q: I have a pending case since last December. Is it faster if I

apply for a new appointment and submit a recent application? (pending cases & new

applications)

CG_Powers: (08:33) No, if your case is pending administrative processing you will

have to wait until the administrative processing has been completed.

gaga: (08:33) While filling out the CEAC application I could not download the

photo. Will that be a problem?

CG Powers: (08:33) In the event that you are unable to download the photo

electronically, we will capture the photograph at the time of your interview.

Umm-Yusuf: (08:34) what is the validity of ''police certificate'' in order to

prepare my papers for the interview of Dv lottery program?

CG Powers: (08:34) The police certificate is valid for one year.

REMO: (08:38) How long it takes to get answer from the ACS regarding my

applications to get consular report of birth abroad, and how can i check the

status on line to track it?

CG Powers: (08:38) It is not possible to check the status of CRBA application on

line. You should free to contact us at ConsularCairoACS@state.govOnce you have

submitted your CRBA application, you should get an initial response within a week

or two if everything is completed.

CG-Powers: (09:01) Hi Soza, thanks for your question. We only receive completed

visa packages from NVC. I suggest you contact NVC directly at

NVCinquiry@state.gov.

and we will call you directly to provide guidance.

CG_Powers: (09:03) The Embassy does provide expedited appointments in a few

limited cases. Your mother should contact us to let us know of her situation.

Given that expedited appointments are not always available, it is best to request

your interview as far in advance of your travel as possible.

mo: (09:03) i,D LIKE TO APPLY FOR A APPIOTMENT...HOW COULD I DO THIS??

CG Powers: (09:03) If you need a nonimmigrant visa appointment, you should

contact Vodafone. If you need an immigrant visa appointment, you will be notified

directly by NVC when your petition is current.

Michael Luka: (09:03) I was applying for a tourist visa last Wednesday in 27 April

and the consular said I'm not rejected and I'm not approved and she gave a case

number to check it online but this message always appears we were not able to

identify Case # 2011117-221-1, please make sure you have entered your Case Number

correctly

CG Powers: (09:04) It is not clear what type of assistance you are seeking.

DEMYAN ZARIF: (09:04) thanks for answerd me , but what if i want to go see my wife

and from there she can finsh it when i,m there , is that Possible?

CG Powers: (09:04) If your intent is to immigrate, you will need to obtain an

immigrant visa and will not be able to travel with a nonimmigrant visa.

Rita: (09:04) Q: My child was born in New Jersey. I lost his birth certificate

and need to get a new one. How would I do that?

CG_Powers: (09:04) Each state has a legal entity that issues official birth

certificates for citizens born in the state. To get a new birth certificate, you

should contact the state’s vital records office directly. Unfortunately, the

Embassy cannot replace lost U.S. birth certificates for you. The information for

getting a new birth certificate from New Jersey can be found here:

http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/ If you are getting the birth certificate to

be used in Egypt, be sure you have it authenticated at the nearest Egyptian

Embassy or consulate in the U.S. The Embassy is not able to certify U.S. birth

certificates for use in Egypt.

Michael 4: (09:05) I applied I-130 petition from Cairo, approved, then i got

letter stating visa type CR-1, while it should be IR-1 as I got married for 3

years ago...I completed all the required documents, and stated this mistake,

finally I got the interview letter stating visa type CR-1. the second interview at

the next week, how can i modify it to avoid the mistake of getting IR-1 stamp at

the port of entry (which happened to many people)...thank you in advance

CG Powers: (09:06) There are no documents required to submit a visa application.

At the time of the interview, you will need to demonstrate to the satisfaction of

the consular officer that you are not an intending immigrant and that your stay

will be a temporary one.

CG-Powers: (09:06) Thanks for your question. This will not have any effect on the

ability of Egyptians to enter the U.S.

kyrillos: (09:07) I know that the asylum can be done after arriving in the States,

so is there any way overseas? and How I can do that?

CG Powers: (09:07) It is not possible to apply for political asylum from abroad.

Rita: (09:09) Q. My lawyer in the U.S. has told me to apply for a tourist visa,

and then apply for immigration or adjust my status after I arrive. Can I do that?

CG-Powers: (09:09) Generally not. Many categories of immigrant visas involve long

waiting periods before the visa can be issued. It is generally not possible to

spend this period in the U.S.

gaga: (09:10) How do I apply for a social security number?

CG-Powers: (09:10) You can submit an application for a social security number at

the Embassy by presenting a completed SSA-5 form, proof of age, identity and

citizenship. Children will also need proof of their parents’ identities and

citizenship. You do not need an appointment to submit a social security

application, although you will need to submit the application during the working

hours posted on our website. All applicants over the age of 12 will need to be

present. Please bear in mind that while the Embassy certifies documents attached

to the applications, it does not process them at post and it will take several

months before you receive the social security card, which will be issued in the

U.S. and sent to you via international mail.

CG Powers: (09:10) You will need to submit a formal application, and a response

will be provided once your circumstances have been reviewed by a consular officer.

CG Powers: (09:12) You will first need to submit an application. Please check our

website for instructions on how to do so.

Rita: (09:14) Q: I am a permanent resident in Canada. I have lived in Canada for

12 years. I am also an Egyptian citizen and I hold an Egyptian passport. I came

in for an interview for a B1/B2 visa in Cairo while I was visiting my parents on

holiday and was refused. I was told that I need to apply for a visa in Canada.

Why can’t I apply for a visa in Cairo if I am an Egyptian citizen? (

CG_Powers: (09:14) You are free to apply in Egypt for your visa, but it is usually

best to submit your application where you normally reside, as that is where most

of your ties will be. The requirements for qualification will be the same

wherever you apply.

Lobna Nabil: (09:14) Since my parent are holding 5 years visa. So, would it be

easy for me to travel with them after applying for visa for myself or I will face

another regret. Please advise..?

CG Powers: (09:14) It will be important to alert the consular officer that your

parents hold US visas. This is not, however, a guarantee that you will qualify

for a visa. You will need to demonstrate that you are not an intending immigrant

and that your proposed visit is a temporary one.

usually take

CG Powers: (09:15) Adminstrative processing is mandatory and it is possible to

predict how long it will take for completion. This period varies with each

individual application.

me please how i can take tourist visa and i dont have money in bank and im studant

CG-Powers: (09:15) Hello, abdallah. There is no amount of savings required to get

a non-immigrant visa. However, you will need to show the Consular Officer that

your ties to Egypt are strong enough to guarantee your return home.

khaled: (09:16) there is something i would like to understand ( as i 've been to

europe fbefore for 1 month tourism trip and after i came back i wanted to visit

th U.S but i was refused twice ) is there any chance for me to apply for a visa or

immigration cause actually i want another oppurtunity in a better country

CG Powers: (09:16) You will need to demonstrate that you are not an intending

immigrant and that you will have a compelling reason to return following a

temporary visit to the US.

experince in travelling before ?

CG_Powers: (09:17) Previous travel is not a requirement for getting a tourist

visa; however, having travel is usually beneficial.

too short that many friends recive their passports the visa validity 2 monthes

why?

CG Powers: (09:18) The length of the DV varies, on occasion, depending upon when

some of the medical exam results were completed. Some of the results are valid

for a limited period only.

CG-Powers: (09:18) Hello, Kareem, thanks for your question. One option is to apply

for the Diversity Visa program online when it is announced. Once the lottery is

announced you can apply here: dvlottery.travel.state.gov

over 20 years and they offer to help me...do i have to ask for appointement and

how ??? how can i enter the embassy to identify my case ?

CG_Powers: (09:19) First, you will need to contact Vodaphone to request an

appointment. They will notify you of your appointment date. After this, you will

need to pay for your interview at a CIB bank. Our website has more detailed

information on how to request the appointment and what documents to bring on the

day of your interview.

CG Powers: (09:20) In order to immigrate to the US you must have a valid IV

petition filed by an immediate relative.

Nora Yuseef: (09:21) Q. I'm a permanent resident and would like to know if I can

file a petition for my parents; do I have to wait until I become a US citizen

before I can apply for them?

CG Powers: (09:21) Hello Nora, thanks for your question. When reviewing

relationship cases, there is no specific proof required. If the officer requests

more proof of your relationship, common examples are photos of wedding, engagement

parties, or daily life, or proof of communication such as telephone bills or wire

transfers.

CG Powers: (09:23) You are free to submit a new application if your circumstances

have changed since your last application. You will still need to demonstrate that

you are not an intending immigrant and that you will have a compelling reason to

return home following a temporary visit.

Ramez: (09:24) Which justifications will help me prove that i intend to return

home after my visit is finished?

CG_Powers: (09:24) To be eligible for a tourist visa you must demonstrate that you

have more ties to your home country than to the United States. There are several

different types of ties (social, financial, through community, family, travel,

etc). Ties may very greatly between applicants and there is no specific number or

type that we are looking for.

CG Powers: (09:25) Your immediate relative in the US will need to file an

immigrant visa petition on your behalf.

Alaa Elbatawy: (09:26) i just want to know if i want to work in usa i need to get

susponsership from the place i;m going to work in it or what?

CG-Powers: (09:26) Hello, Alaa. If you wish work in the U.S., a U.S. employer must

file an employment-based petition on your behalf. Alternately, if you obtain an

immigrant visa, you will be able to work once you receive your permanent

residency.

come on visit visa untill her interview date is scheduled?

CG_Powers: (09:26) Your wife is welcome to apply for a tourist visa while her

immigrant visa is pending; however, she will have to prove that she is not

intending to immigrate to the United States, which may be difficult to do if she

has an immigrant visa in process.

Aly Nasreldin: (09:27) i have sent my case couple days ago as i do have my

daughter which is american citizen living with my ex wife ( which is American as

well) in the USA, i divorced my wife before i get a green card and left the USA

and now every time i try to apply for a visa a get refusal cause they say i over

stayed a previous visa. My ex is afraid to send my daughter which is 15 yearss old

to visit me, i pay child support and me and my daaughter want to meet,,, how come

i cant have a visa to the USA ??? what kind of law would block a father from his

daughter? and what is wrong with me over stayed a previous visa when y ex was

pregnant and i had a reasson to overstay??? how can i re-unite with my baby??? i

need to know

accepted me, the told me top call the embassy to ask what type of visa I need. and

when I called Vodafone (2100) they couldn't help me out , they asked. so I had to

get back to my NGO again , and toVOdafobe , back and forth, and it was really hard

for me. so I'm just aking , is it possible that an officer inside the embassy

answer these kind of question that they have no answers at vodafone? Thanks a lot.

CG Powers: (08:23) We did not keep your passport in view of the fact that it is not possible to predict the amount of time required for completion of the administrative processing. While waiting the completion of this mandatory processing, you are able to travel with your passport. When the processing is finished, we will request that you send your passport to the embassy for visa issuance.

CG_Powers: (08:25) No, your daughter’s visa is still valid and she will be able to travel with you with her new passport and the visa in the parent’s passport. If she wishes to travel alone, then she will need to apply for a visa for her new passport.

CG Powers: (08:29) Interview for DV 2012 will not commence until October 1. You will be informed directly by KCC of your interview date and time. These notifications are sent out as the dates are fixed and as long as there are still DV available.

CG_Powers: (08:31) You should apply for a B1/B2 visa. There are no special documents required for submitting an application. You should be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary funds to cover your proposed visit, as well as demonstrate that you intend to return home following the visit. In addition, it may be helpful, though not required, to bring confirmation of your exam date/location, as well as proof of previous step exams you have taken.

CG Powers: (08:32) If you are a returning resident, you can file immigrant visa petitions on behalf of your wife and children once you are back in the US. They will not be able to travel with you until they receive immigrant visas.

CG Powers: (08:38) It is not possible to check the status of CRBA application on line. You should free to contact us at ConsularCairoACS@state.govOnce you have submitted your CRBA application, you should get an initial response within a week or two if everything is completed.

CG_Powers: (09:04) Each state has a legal entity that issues official birth certificates for citizens born in the state. To get a new birth certificate, you should contact the state’s vital records office directly. Unfortunately, the Embassy cannot replace lost U.S. birth certificates for you. The information for getting a new birth certificate from New Jersey can be found here: http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/ If you are getting the birth certificate to be used in Egypt, be sure you have it authenticated at the nearest Egyptian Embassy or consulate in the U.S. The Embassy is not able to certify U.S. birth certificates for use in Egypt.

CG-Powers: (09:10) You can submit an application for a social security number at the Embassy by presenting a completed SSA-5 form, proof of age, identity and citizenship. Children will also need proof of their parents’ identities and citizenship. You do not need an appointment to submit a social security application, although you will need to submit the application during the working hours posted on our website. All applicants over the age of 12 will need to be present. Please bear in mind that while the Embassy certifies documents attached to the applications, it does not process them at post and it will take several months before you receive the social security card, which will be issued in the U.S. and sent to you via international mail.

CG_Powers: (09:14) You are free to apply in Egypt for your visa, but it is usually best to submit your application where you normally reside, as that is where most of your ties will be. The requirements for qualification will be the same wherever you apply.

CG Powers: (09:14) It will be important to alert the consular officer that your parents hold US visas. This is not, however, a guarantee that you will qualify for a visa. You will need to demonstrate that you are not an intending immigrant and that your proposed visit is a temporary one.

CG-Powers: (09:15) Hello, abdallah. There is no amount of savings required to get a non-immigrant visa. However, you will need to show the Consular Officer that your ties to Egypt are strong enough to guarantee your return home.

After this, you will need to pay for your interview at a CIB bank. If the officer requests more proof of your relationship, common examples are photos of wedding, engagement parties, or daily life, or proof of communication such as telephone bills or wire transfers.

CG_Powers: (09:24) To be eligible for a tourist visa you must demonstrate that you have more ties to your home country than to the United States. There are several different types of ties (social, financial, through community, family, travel, etc). Ties may very greatly between applicants and there is no specific number or type that we are looking for.

George E.: (09:28) I applied for an Internship in an American NGO, and they accepted me, the told me top call the embassy to ask what type of visa I need. and when I called Vodafone (2100) they couldn't help me out , they asked. so I had to get back to my NGO again , and toVOdafobe , back and forth, and it was really hard for me. so I'm just aking , is it possible that an officer inside the embassy answer these kind of question that they have no answers at vodafone?
