Health care after POE?

I am preparing for my POE, and in the process I have been seeking out health care providers in California. I contacted Anthem by Blue Cross and was informed that for most health plans, I need to be living in the US for 3 months before being eligible for their coverage. When I tried to apply online, it asked if I had been in the USA for 3 months or more consecutively. Obviously, I have not. My POE will be April 28 and I am coming from a fully paid system, to this crazy privatized system. In need of some help by people who have been there and gone through this. Anthem told me to get travel insurance for 3-4 months. Travel insurance will only cover me if I am returning to my home country.

Any help appreciated. I have no idea what to do. My fiance and his family have had the same health care for years. I will not be joining his plan as a spouse as it is more expensive than individual care and plans are very limited.

Help! :)

Seems like you will be joining it for at least 3 months. Or going without. Once married, you will have up to 30 days time to enroll in his plan, find out about it now so you can be prepared.

Also you may want to check with your Canadian health plan. I believe there is foreign coverage you can buy on a temporary basis.

Canadian healthcare does not work that way.
