Keep in mind USCIS is self funded, it is paid for by the fees paid for petitions and applications, so more than likely will not be affected.

I am not so sure about that: I think it will be affected, it is not 100% self-funded

People need to stop fear-mongering.

USCIS is run from what YOU pay them for your petition. It is not government funded. Your paying them with the fees to do the work.

This question has been asked a plethora of times, if you use the search function you can find it.

USCIS wouldn't be, but the NVC and all Consulates/Embassy's would be.

People seem to keep forgetting that USCIS is only one step in the process...........

NVC and Consulate are under state department. SHOULD the government shut down, BOTH of those services would be rendered staffless.

Meaning everyone past USCIS would be in limbo.

Least we not forgot the 1995/1996 shutdown delayed 80,000 visas.

People need to pay close attention to this because it could become a reality.

As for the OP, you have every right to be concerned about this. Don't let others tell you to stop "fear mongering" because this is a reality that could cause a serious disruption to those waiting at the NVC/Embassy level. Blob18 makes a great point about how the 1995/1996 shutdown delayed thousands of visas, some of which NEVER got processed. There is nothing wrong with being worried about something that could keep you and your loved one apart for a longer time. For now all you can do is wait a few more days until April 8 to see if it does happen.

6/1/09 - 6/11/09-----> First meeting (Japan)

11/11/09 - 11/21/09-----> Second meeting (Japan)

2/7/10 - 2/14/10-----> Third meeting (Vietnam) (First trip to Vietnam)

4/1/10 - 4/11/10-----> Fourth meeting (Vietnam) (Second trip to Vietnam)

5/5/10-----> I-129F: NOA1

8/27/10-----> NOA2

12/20/10-----> Interview Date

well thats annoying as VSC could approve me this week as expedite approved, it will then be sent to NVC, and there will be no-one there to get the mail, to process or anything. I hope this doesnt happen, or if it does, it lasts a few days.

It doesn't mean very much. The entire government will not stop working. It will only effect non-essential government functions like national parks, some parts of the departments of education, agriculture and energy, and other really obscure government offices.

Key functions like defense, DHS, the department of state (embassies and consulates), FBI, CIA, Medicare/Medicaid, and Social Security will operate as usual.
