Galway, Ireland Police Certificate

We filed our Fiance visa at the end of April. Since then we have received two RFEs waiting on a response from the last one. We are trying to get ahead with some of the necessary documents needed for the K-1. We have read that you are required to have a police certificate. Does the embassy send you a form in Packet 3 to take to the garda station, or do you go in and request it? Also, has anyone received a police certificate from Galway, and if so, how long did it take?

Any advice regarding this issue would greatly appreciated... We are a nervous wreck...

From what I read a police certificat is only good for 6 months, depending on how long it takes to get one were you are you may just wait for NOA2, then work on getting that certificate. If you dont have your birth certificat I would get that, and also start on I-134.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).

2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.

3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is notarized (by a public notary), with all required supporting evidence. Some consulates may require a different form. Some require an I-864. If yours does, send that instead. You can call or email the consulate to check. Additionally, the consulate will notify your fiance(e) via mail correspondence which they prefer. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.

5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these asap after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134/I-864. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134.

6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.

I got my police certificate from the Mills street Gardai Station in Galway...

I think it took me like a month or a little more.

Go to the police station with your passport and an envelope with your address.

Make them know it s for immigration.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice y'all. My fiance is currently in the US on a holiday visa, is it possible to request the police certificate through the post? Do not know if anyone has tried that. Also, does anyone know how long it takes from the receipt of Packet 3 until interview date at the Irish Embassy. We have so many questions... This is hard on our family as I moved back to the states in December (lived in Ireland for four years) and our family is seperated for the first time (we have three children). We are trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

Once dublin gets the notice that you are ready for the interview its normally only a few weeks before the interview. Make sure you bring everything. Their policy is the more you have for them the better. He will be granted the visa the same day

I am not sure if richard can apply for a police certificate whilst abroad. i think he would personally have to go the station himself.

I received my Garda Cert within 2 weeks, but applied thru Kildare not Galway.

I think Donal is right. He'll have to go along himself in person. But a phone call to the main garda station in galway would answer that.

It depends, if you request it in writing it'll take longer. I went into the local garda station in the morning and it was ready that evening by 5pm. If your fiance is from a small town and they know him/her well it'll make it a lot easier. I had one garda tell me that I had to send a letter to somewhere in the South asking for the certificate, and I asked to speak to her supervisor. He basically said that was a pile of #######, and he'd have it ready by that evening. Explain what its for, and that its urgent and they'll help you out. If your fiance is overseas, he can write to the superintendent in the garda station and have them send it to where he is now. Here's the link to all the information you need regarding birth certificates and police certificates from Ireland

Good Luck, and don't stress out about it!

He is from Galway City, but we live on the Oranmore side. Do you think it would be better to go to the Oranmore station (small) versus the Mill Street Station? Thanks for the info. Have no idea what I am going to do after all this is over as this is my "hobby and/or interests"...

For reference sake, police certificates are 'good' (valid) for different time periods depending on the consulate one will process through.

From what I read a police certificat is only good for 6 months, depending on how long it takes to get one were you are you may just wait for NOA2, then work on getting that certificate. If you dont have your birth certificat I would get that, and also start on I-134.
