Medical Exam Question

Hi Everyone,

We've recently sent in our application for a k1 visa.. through Vermont which I'm reading is unfortunately slow. I was just thinking ahead... wayyy ahead obviously lol and was wondering if my fiance gets vaccinations before his actual medical examination in ciudad juarez and then brings the medical records with him will they accept that in ciudad juarez, or will they insist on giving him more vaccinations there?

"United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Influenza

Influenza type b (Hib)

Measles

Meningococcal

Mumps

Pneumococcal

Pertussis

Polio

Rotavirus

Rubella

Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

Varicella

In order to assist the panel physican, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants should have their vaccination records available for the panel physician's review at the time of the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular health care provider to obtain a copy of their immunization record, if one is available. If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician."

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure what kind of medical records he'll be able to come up with, he's from a super small town and just getting a usable birth certificate was sort of an issue. So just to be clear (and at the risk of sounding redundant) he can get any vaccinations he needs prior to the medical exam in Juarez?

Well, I'm not a 100% positive on this because I haven't been through it yet - still waiting for our NOA2 But as far as I know, it's better if he has all these vaccinations before the medical exam - or proof that he had them done in the past. Good luck!

From what I've gathered reading consulate reviews and other members' posts the doctors at the medical exam are familiar with people not being able to come up with vaccination records and will check scars and ask questions about the applicants' past to determine if it is likely that the person received standard vaccinations. I was also under the impression that if any boosters are lacking that the beneficiary has an opportunity to receive them upon entry into the US. We weren't gonna worry about it.

Oh wait,here we go: here is the consulate info stating that no vaccinations are required for K-1. If the applicant has been treated for a venereal disease, is under psychiatric care or has a chronic illness it is recommended to bring or send your medical file.

K visa applicants are encouraged to get the vaccinations required under U.S. immigration law for immigrant visa applicants. Although such vaccinations are not required for K visa issuance, they will be required when adjusting status to that of legal permanent resident following your marriage. Applicants are therefore encouraged to fulfill these vaccination requirements at the time of the medical examination. See Vaccination Requirements for IV Applicants for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.

You can have them done before the medical. If it's difficult to locate your fiance's records, then have a blood test (serological) to determine their immunity.

I could not find all of my immunisations records so I had one today. Very simple, cost me next to nothing and any immunisations I need to have will be much cheaper then getting them once I get to the States.

Each country does it differently so you need to check your consolate info. For example in Mexico we wait until it goes through NVC, through the consolate where they issue our packet 3. The beneficiary travels to the consulate and does the medical in that city the day before the interview. But it varies greatly from country to country so just check or write to a member that has already gone before you.

We are trying to get pregnant. Her medical is not til March. Can we get the vaccination somewhere else and show the certificate once she get her medical? So we don't have to wait 1-3 months to start trying. Thanks
