Hey everyone,

We just sent our K1 application on Jan 12. I just read somewhere that the only 2 places in Canada where the interviews are held for the K1 is in Vancouver or Montreal. When we filled out our application we put Calgary as the local USCIS I would be going to, as i was basing it on where USCIS offices are based out of from the websites. Does anyone know if USCIS will just adjust it automatically and send us to either city for the interview, or will they send our application back and make us put either Vancouver or Montreal if interviews are only held there for the K1?

Well you don't go to USCIS for the visa interview you go to the US embassy.

USCIS will send it to the correct location based on your location.

Vancouver or Montreal are indeed the only places that do K-1.

I picked Winnipeg for mine but then everything was sent to Montreal. I live in Saskatchewan and it should have gone to Vancouver so after I received my packet3 from Montreal, I emailed both Montreal and Vancouver asking to have it transferred to Vancouver. They transferred my file to Vancouver and everything went very quickly after that. So if its sent to Montreal you can always have it transferred to Vancouver.

I got my interview date very quick after I sent in my forms. I faxed (you can fax with Vancouver) on November 4th and received my interview letter by the 10th with it scheduled for November 23rd, I was going down to see Jason so I requested to have it moved to anytime after the 29th. They emailed me back and it was rescheduled for December 1st. It's a lot quicker going to Vancouver.

Wow, Jason & Sheri, 3 weeks to an interview is my dream! How did you request a transfer to Vancouver? I live in Ontario, but the Montreal interviews seem to be taking ages! My fiance is in Washington state, so it'd be a shorter drive from his house to Vancouver, than from my house to Montreal! It's very nearly worth it to us to pay for a flight for me to Vancouver if it cuts six weeks off our wait time!

April, 2009 - We met

May, 2009 - We wooed

June, 2010 - We got engaged, looking forward to a small August 2010 wedding

** Reality Check: K-1 Process**

July 22, 2010 - NOA1

**5 months of patient waiting**

December 29, 2011 - call around for information about delay

January 5, 2011 - RFE notice (first online status update yet!)

January 10, 2011 - RFE Hardcopy

January 13, 2011 - RFE Response acknowledged

January 24, 2011 - NOA2 (at last!!)

February 3, 2011 - application sent from NVC to Montreal (aka. the Abyss?)

March 7, 2011 - Packet 3 sent to me

March 10, 2011 - Packet 3 delivered to Montreal

March 21, 2011 - Packet 4 sent to me

April 5, 2011 - Medical

April 13, 2011 - Interview - approved!

April 20, 2011 - visa in hand

May 9, 2011 - POE (Buffalo, NY)

May 10, 2011 - wedding :)

I don't think you'll be able to transfer since you live in Ontario. Vancouver does the K1 interviews for Manitoba/Sask/Alberta/BC so when my case was sent to Montreal, I started to gather everything for Montreal then found a thread on here about a women that had her file sent to Vancouver because she lived in Calgary. So I emailed Montreal and asked them to transfer it to Vancouver and emailed Vancouver and told them I had requested a transfer to Vancouver and asked what happens after they receive my file. Both places emailed me back so I just had to wait. I did that on Oct 11th and received my packet3 letter from Vancouver on November 1st and everything just fell into place after that.

I hope you get your interview as quickly as possible with Montreal!! I know when I got my packet3 from Montreal and went on the website to register they were booking into January and that was October so I know its super backed up.

Ah, yeah, I noticed your location was Sask. right after posting...

Thanks for the well-wishes though. I wish we'd known better and allocated 10 months to this whole process in our minds instead of feeling like every week is another delay.

*sigh*
