I got one at Washington Mutual, which was bought by Chase. Our account stayed active at Chase without an SSN on file, but I don't know if they will open a new account without an SSN. The local credit union opened an account that was just mine, but my wife was an authorized user, which allowed us to have all of the account documents in both of our names and to have checks with both of our names, which we included as proof of our relationship. Good luck.

What are banks in US that will allow to enroll the spouse even without an SSN?

Thanks guys!

I have accounts at Chase and PNC, and I had no problems adding my wife (who has yet to get her SSN) to both accounts as a joint account holder.

Good luck!

We don't have Chase close to my place. I can open it online? How am I going to put the money? I'm from Kittery, ME.

My husband added me to his Chase account without a problem. They said they could add my SSN plus change my name (it was the day after we got married, I didn't officially have my husband's name yet) at any time. Don't know how it works online but I have to think it shouldn't be difficult these days.

Good luck!

REALLY? My husband has BOA and he inquired but was told he can't do it since I'm not in US and no SSN yet. Please let me know more about it. Thank you so much! I will let Matt go to BOA after work today.

State Farm Bank, they are an online only bank that you access your account using the local ATMs. At the end of the month they refund all ATM charges!

You will need to fill out additional forms and get your wife to sign a form or two, they do accept faxed copies of scanned signed forms).

The State Farm Bank ATM Card will work in the Philippines and you will still get the ATM Fees refunded!

I have been added to ...Wachovia Bank.Usaa,PNC and M&t....

My husband added me to his Wachovia account and usaa account over a year ago when we were just about to start the process, we did have to go in and show my passport for id but that was it. For his usaa , we were able to fax over a copy of my passport too.

In april of this year we opened a M&t together when I was here for a visit using my passport. We did the same with Pnc and I just put my ssn on the accounts a few weeks ago.

I'd say each branch of each bank seems to handle it differently and if he got one answer at one bank, try another branch. That's what I did and we were finally able to get an 'international checking account' jointly at Chase.

We just went in together and waited to talk to an agent instead of one of the tellers and told her our situation and we opened a new joint account right there (matching debit cards! You got to choose designs! It was the best part! lol) She was able to set us up easily! It only took about 20 minutes and they mailed the cards to Matt's house. This was in Portland, Maine, so I'm not sure if it's different for different states! i'm reading out statement and it doesn't say much about what kind of account we have except maybe a joint eBanking account? Go in in person and ask to speak to one of the representatives and hopefully they can set you up!

I couldn't find one, but I did talk to Schwab and the ATM card works everywhere that my wife lives with no ATM fees. I opened the account and just sent her the card. After we file taxes at the end of the year and she has her ITIN then I can add her to the accounts with this, but I'll probably hold off until she is here with her SSN so we don't have to change a bunch of things down the road.
