I am very shocked that this occurred while in the hands of the United States Postal Service (USPS). With that said, though, when you re-send the documents please consider using FedEx, UPS, or another courier service. Next time around, they would probably make it to the Philippines via USPS. However, the Philippine Postal Service is unreliable at best. Packages, cards, and letters frequently arrive late, damaged/opened, or both. And if you are sending during the holidays know that the country will literally shut down from December 24 through January 3 during which time the government is not working (includes both the postal service AND customs).

FedEx and other couriers ARE expensive, but documents generally get to where they are going on time and without any evidence of tampering. If any of the missing documents contained SSN, DOB, and/or financial information, it may not be a bad idea over the coming months to watch your credit report like a hawk.

Good luck and God bless you both

Filing a complaint with the USPS will get you nowhere fast. Your papers are lost and the priority now is to get your backup copy to your fiancee.

My wife did have my originals but the officer never really looked at them. The inspector will want to see originals only if they want to confirm the accuracy of the copied documents.

Send her your backup copy along with a letter explaining the loss of the originals and any documents from the usps about the damage.

All the items you mention can be taken to the interview as copies. You could simply scan them and email them to her for printing locally. The only original item she needs is the signed I-134.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

USPS turns it over to the Philippines postal service and everyone here knows how unreliable they are, a lesson I learned the hard way.

That is why I am shocked that the US Embassy is relying on the Philippine postal service to delivery letters telling people that they can schedule their interview appointments.

If I had waited for a letter in the mail here in the Philippines to schedule, I would still be waiting.

FedEx is the only one I will trust.

OMG yes, definitey need to file a claim in regards to this. Additionally, when you went to send the package did you fill out a customs form and insure it. I know in sending items to Turkey, that if I fail to insure the package and fill out the customs form that this is typically what happens. I hope this helps!

Keep an eye on your credit scores is one way. If you start noticing weird changes with it someone may be using your ident. Im not sure if you can check your social sec number activity or report that someone may have taken your ident to them.. Keep an eye on your bank account transactions, watch for any that you don't make! if you use online banking maybe change your password on it to something really hard for someone to figure out like random numbers and letters.
