HI we recently got our petition approved for the K1 Visa. The NVC has sent the file to the Embassy in Santo Domingo, DR on 11/30. I am trying to figure out how long will it take for us to have appointment scheduled. I have researched some VSJ timelines and it appears to be around 3-4 months from when they rcv the file. Does anyone have a better idea of generally how long it takes. Also is there a way to request an earlier appointment date? Thanks alot- Shaun and John

Hello!

First of all, congratulations on your petition's approval. The longest wait is now over! I would recommend that you look at other DR members' timelines (look at the timelines of people who have already completed the visa process) in order to get an idea of when the interview might be scheduled. Also, you could read the embassy reviews to read on the common interview questions and become more familiar with the interview process. I hope you are planning on attending the interview. It seems as though it is strongly required (even the American consulate website at Santo Domingo says so). As far as getting a sooner appointment, please let me know if you find a way to do it!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

CONGRATS!!! I've been in your shoes...I know you're excited.

Check the timelines of the other members here in the Dominican Rep (mine is below). Try to see what the average amount of time passes it takes for Embassy in Santo Domingo to receive your case until members receive their Interview date. Your best option is to call the Department of State (Visa Specialist) in Washington D.C. Call 202 663 1225. Press Option 1 then Option 0 to speak to a visa specialist. (Do not waste your money calling the Embassy). I called and them maybe 2-3 weeks after the case had arrived and the Visa Specialist told me when the Instruction Packet (P4) was married to my fiancée and also our interview date.

Within this time period (of waiting). Check the Interview list here for your interview date

http://santodomingo....pointments.html

And also begin getting these list of things done (you will need all of these for your interview)

http://santodomingo....structions.html

All the forms you need for the interview is ONLINE and the same "instructions" you receive from the Embassy are online as well. (check the link above). You can get nearly everything done before your instructions arrive. What your really waiting for is "your interview letter" that allows you to get your medical exam done.

http://www.consultor...om/english.html

Word of advice...sometimes people never receive their interview packet, so be proactive and keep calling and getting things done for your interview (which I'm guessing may be in Feb/March). If you find out your interview date and still have not received your packet, then you call the Embassy and ask if you can pick up a duplicate packet so you can get your medical done in time for the interview (call 2 weeks before the interview date).

One last thing. You Must Go To The Interview!!! They expect both people to be there...if not they can deny you immediately. Or reschedule your interview (if you're lucky).

The links above don't work. Try these.

INTERVIEW LIST

INSTRUCTIONS

MEDICAL EXAM INFO

Also, I'm not aware of anyone requesting their interview early.

If you want to track your case going from NVC to the Embassy. Someone here on this site found out a way. It worked for me and lots of others.

@ MRTEE12....Thanks so much you have given us a wealth of information that is truly invaluable. I was able to track the petition at DHL website by putting the reference number : EXP 29 NOV 2010A, the NVC told me it shipped on 11/30/2010. I will checking the other links also. I am still wondering why the petition shows on DHL website as ARRIVED AT DHL FACILITY. So basically I guess its safe to say it hasn't been delivered, but its good to know where it is. Thanks everyone for your insight and suggestions.
