Has anyone written a letter to congressman or senator?

A humble request to post a sample letter here

Yes I did last month. This was my letter. Nothing changed.

Dear Representative ............:

I am a U.S citizen and I applied visa for my fiance to bring him to America. On may 4, 2010 I received a letter from USCIS that they approved the form I129F PETITION and they will send the approved petition to National Visa Center. National Visa Center sent a letter to us which they listed London for interview processing because that was my fiance’s address at the time we submitted the petition.

So we sent an email to the Department of State explaining that my fiance no longer lives in London and requested processing in Dubai.I called the embassy of London and they told me that they forwarded our case on July 28, 2010 to Abu Dhabi and they should get it within 10-30 business day.

Since that time we did not receive any update on our case. When I call the embassy in London they tell me they forwarded the case and it is no longer their responsibility. When I e-mail the Abu Dhabi embassy, they e-mail me back the case is still in transit from the UK and they did not receive it . I am so worry because I am scare our file might be lost or left somewhere. This situation is so hard for my fiance and me.I missed him so much and I don’t even know when I can see him again. Please I need your help and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Mr. Er,

What I did is google to see who was my state Senator first. Then on the Senator's website, you have to download a form called "Consent For Release Of Information". It will allow the Senator's office to inquiry USCIS about your case. Fill out the form as instrusted and attached any USCIS documents you have received. You may fax the information directly to their office or mail it.

I received a post card from my Senator's office after a week. Notifying me that they received my case information and will review my case and notifity as soon as possible. After a week of receiving the post card, I called the Senator's office to see to whom my case was assigned. In a few weeks I will call again to see if the assigned person has reviewed my case and has any new information.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Sure I can, but its for Florida residents. Each state Senator's website should have one.

Mr. Er what state are you or ur wife in? Maybe I can find it for you.

Waiting for your reply.

For help dealing with a federal agency, fill out a consent for information form and send relevant information to Senator Nelson’s Orlando office. Call (407) 872-7161 or (888) 671-4091 if you have questions.

Has anyone written a letter to congressman or senator?

A humble request to post a sample letter here

Here's the sample letter that I used:

DATE

Congressman/Senator Name

Address

RE: Name of Petitioner/Name of Beneficiary

USCIS Receipt #:

Attachments:

1. Signed copy of Privacy Release Form

2. Copy of I-797C, Notice of Action

Dear Congressman/Senator:

I am writing to request that your office make an inquiry to USCIS California Service Center in regards to an I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, I filed last [date filed]. I believe that my case is now out of the normal processing time of 5 months. I have not received any update to my case since [date of last touch].

I would appreciate your office’s kind assistance with regards to my case. Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Petitioner's Name

I received a letter from one of my senators 5 days later...

Thank you for your recent correspondence in regards to your immigration matter.

A member of my staff contacted the California Service Center (CSC) of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and received the following response:

The I-130 petition was approved on 11/03/10. An approved notice was mailed to the petitioner's address of record: [address withheld]. The petition was forwarded to the National Visa Center for processing.

I hope you find the response from USCIS to be helpful.

I appreciate your bringing this matter to my attention and giving me the opportunity to assist you in resolving this issue. Please feel free to contact my office in the future should you need assistance with another matter involving the federal government.

And a letter from the other senator the following day...

Thank you for your recent correspondence in regards to your immigration matter.

A member of my staff contacted the California Service Center (CSC) of the U.S. Citizenship and

Immigration Services (USCIS) and received the following response:

The I-130 petition was approved on 11/2/10. An approval notice was mailed to the petitioner's

address of record: [address withheld] and the petition has been forwarded to the National Visa Center for

processing.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact my Seattle office if you need assistance with any other federal matter in the future.

In my case, I received the NOA2 several hours after contacting my state representatives. I am sure it was a coincidence. Nonetheless, I am happy that the liaisons did, in fact, contact USCIS. My case received several touches days after my NOA2 was issued.

I hope you have the same experience with your congressman and/or senators. Good luck as keep us updated!

I have agree with sara2010 "you have to have good reason". I could write my senator or congressman and say: "it is unfair to have to wait so long to be with my wife", but I am not waiting any longer than anyone else. There is nothing unusual about my case. It would be like writing that my taxes are too high, but I am be taxed the same as anyone else who makes the same amount of money. It would just be a general complaint.

Actually you are not. Processing times have been about 5 months for I-130s. We filed out I-130 in the middle of June and were approved in the middle of November. Since you filed in July, you should expect to be approved this month (if there are no problems with your application) .

Good luck!

my 5 monthes will be in 3 days, nothing from USCIS, I should expect mine in 3 days not "this month".

you got yours still before 5 monthes (according to your timeline). And right now situation changed, people from augast and september are getting approval. We paid the same money, and the same missing our husbands/wives, the same suffering, having troubles because apart, cant get kids. 1 month ago I was silent. Our feelings make sense?

I understand what you mean, we just talk about different things from different positions.
