Hello fellow VJers, I need some help concerning the AOS for the NVC leg of Ahmed and my journey. I am a senior in college and I do not make enough income, so I asked my Uncle Nate to co sponsor. He of course said he would do it, anything to help me. So here is the thing... He is retired and recieves retirement funds. He owns his house that is worth over 125,000.00 dollars. So we will use the house to make up the money he doesnt make being retired. What I need to know is what exactly does he need to send me. He has asked me to make a detailed list of all documents he needs to gather, but I do not know where to look for this info, help me please VJ!!!! I have seen the wonderful support here and I am in need of each of you. Thank you so very much!!! (F)

I guess the first question is, does he own the house out-right or is he still making payments?

He'll need a recent appraisal of the home and a note from the bank indicating how much, if any, is remaining on the mortgagte. Only equity in the home can be used (I think)

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. He owns the house outright, no payments. Will his tax papers that has the value of the house count as an appraisal?

Hi Amber (that's my daughter's name too!)

Your uncle will need to fill out the I-864 form too. He will need to include his tax forms for the past 3 years even if that shows he is under the poverty line and he can use his house as an asset. He will need to have an appraisal on his home and any bank statements showing if he has any mortgages or loans out on his home.

This is the pdf for the I-864 and it answers all those questions you are asking what you will need from your uncle.

That is great your uncle is willing to help you get your husband here!

Good luck!

The tax valuation of the home is different from the exact value of the home. Get an appraisal

Good luck

The I-864 instructions ought to be clear for your uncle. Don't forget that you must submit an I-864 regardless of your income.

Here are two more links from the State Dept. website with very helpful information:
