hi. Just to share..My husband who is the USC, is 19 yrs YOUNGER than me..He petitioned for me, and during the interview process, I was already pregnant. So as long as you can prove that you really have a relationship, that should be no problem.

By the way, I really look young, and the IO actually was surprised at my age. :)

I would recommend asking this in a regional forum to get answers specific to Serbia. It really depends on the consulate. For instance, in Egypt or Morocco an older woman/younger man relationship is considered a red flag, whereas the consulate in Canada or England might not blink. Good luck.

I agree...I'd look in regional forums. While its not overly unusual here in USA, in other cultures it may be seen as extremely odd or unnormal. Consular officers are trained to look at things outside of typical culture to determine should there possibly be reason for suspicion. Can it be overcome, yes, but in cases like that you may need to prepare extra evidence of why the age difference didn't bother you.

and what would that evidence might be, like a paper from psychiatrist, saying that im into 'cougars' or what???.

You don't need to prepare any evidence like that. You need to look at what is customary and socially acceptable in Serbia. One of the yardsticks they use to measure the bona fides of the relationship is the social customs of the local country. They call it the "reasonable person standard". Would a "reasonable person" in Serbia think your relationship was highly unusual because of the age difference? If so, then you'll have a tougher time at the interview convincing them your relationship is genuine, so you'll need strong evidence to prove it. If a typical Serbian wouldn't be bothered by the age difference, then the consular officer won't be bothered by it either.

I went into this visa journey process just scared to death reading so much about age difference being a red flag. I just had in my mind that we were gonna be denied in Morocco (a high fraud country) cause of this age difference. Actually, we were only asked one question and nothing more about it. My good friend from Alabama, her husband in Morocco didn't get any grief either on his interview and we were a week apart with our interviews. I was 14 years older and my friend was 10 years older and our sweeties were approved with no hassle what-so-ever. So sometimes, just believe in your relationship and don't over stress yourself as I did when it comes to age difference.

Have a great day....

As long as the CO has overwhelming reason to believe, and sufficient evidence to support, the conclusion that your relationship is genuine and not for immigration benefit then you will have no reason to worry.

Just expect to be asked a couple of probing questions at interview and don't be offended when and if they do; and if they do not then hey all the better right?

Good luck!

To the OP....you may want to ask your question here :

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/193897-serbia/page__st__1020

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I hope it doesn't make a difference, I have a major age difference. I am 55 years old and my fiance is 27 years old, a 28 year age difference. But I want to have children, and a woman my age cann't have children. I tried this 16 years ago when I was 39, same thing, I wanted a wife and family, but my ex didn't want children after we got married. This is my last chance to have children. My Father had 16 brothers and sisters, I have 10 brothers and sisters. So me having no children is unacceptable

I agree with your choice but I am older than the cougars.

It is regionally signifigant and we are not sure about Serbia. If there is a strong cultural bias against such a thing AND it is high fraud country, then YES it would be a problem to overcome, BUT it couldbe overcome. While slavic countries would seem to have a bias against "older women/younger men" they are generally not high fraud consulates. In Ukraine or Russia they would think you were a little daft to be choosing an older woman when there are so many young ones "going begging" but would probably think..."maybe he is into cougars" and let it go at that.

Some big age differences!! My opinion is I think love doesn't know age, love happens it doesn't look at ages, it shouldn't matter, and there are many examples in history of great marriages and famous love stories of husbands and wives with big age differences, but in some cultures like mine, and I know my parents views, it's looked down upon, in particular a young man with a much older wife, and also an older looking man with very young looking wife. I think maybe it's like this a little in all places. I agree that you should check and get advice in the regional forum in as far as it being a red flag at the local consulate.
