I was just wondering if anyone had the same experience of what I had while I did my Biometrics. The Lady who did my Fingerprints and photo was very nice and helped us out with the issue below:

Here it goes:

I am a Philippine Passport Holder and from what information I gathered, I had to report our marriage in Philippine Embassy and have my Maiden name changed to my Married name on my Passport. That way, I get a legal document/proof stating my new married name. Since I didn't have the time to do the report of marriage, I filed AOS and filled out forms using my Maiden name.

When I did my Biometrics and filled out a form, the Lady noticed that I wasn't using my Married name. According to her, it would be best if I change it now and have it on my EAD and GC rather changing it in the future to avoid paying charges. So I explained to her that all our application was on my Maiden name...My hubby and I had no clue that we could use our Marriage certificate as proof for having a Married name. :bonk: I know it's common sense but, we just really don't know how it works as this is our first marriage. hehe not only that, first time to deal with immigration formalities in the US

So what she did was crossed out my Maiden name (by Hand-written) and changed it to My Married name and had an officer signed initials on my notice. She said, from now on, I am going to use My husband's last name ;) also, it would help a lot especially when my Hubby files his tax and etc.

I asked if this would cause any problem on the interview or something because as I've said, I filled out the forms using my maiden name and I don't really like to make any confusion... She said, it should be no problem. If the officer on the interview ask us about the name change, we would just have to show the notice and tell them that I would like to use MY Husbands last name on my EAD and GC.

My Hubby and I always wanted to use his Last name for all my applications, but because we don't have enough knowledge about name changes we just told ourselves to do it later and pay loads for it. So there you go, problem solved and it's absolutely free! Thanks to the helpful Lady! ;) Now I feel more like the "MRS" which I'm very proud of rather than just being a "MISS".
