A friend of mine is just about to send her I-751 package but has a question, her 2 year permanent resident card has her maiden name on it because her passport was still in her maiden name at the time. Can she just put her married name on the form with a copy of their marriage certificate or is there another way she has to handle it?

Thanks

I just filled the form out with my new married name and added on the cover letter that i changed my name. I also included a copy of my name change certificate. I haven't received my GC yet but all the NOAs were addressed to my new name so I guess it worked.

Yes, I have done the same thing. I also included a copy of my name change certificate (+ translation) and mentioned it in the cover letter. Haven't gotten my GC in the mail yet either, but I was approved and everything (including the approval letter) was in my new name.

Just remember to put her maiden name under the "Other Name Used" column.

Depending on which state you are residing, you can actually change a child's name through the court. Just do a Google search for your state and see what it tells you. Just remember to enclose the court paperwork with the I-751.

Good luck!

My wife and I are sending our i751 package out on Monday, and we are VERY confused on the name too. Her GC is currently in her maiden name, and we are planning on sending it in her married name but putting her maiden name along with her middle name in the full middle name field of the application. This means she has First Middle Maiden Last. We are contemplating using either/or the maiden or married. Very confusing. Almost all other legal docs are under the First Middle Maiden Last. In fact, the only docs that still are simply First Middle Maiden are the Green Card and Passport. Any clear suggestions would be appreciated. For now, we plan to file as:

Last Name: Married Name which differs from Green Card

Full Middle Name: Both Middle name AND Maiden Name

That will work. I also replied to your other post!
