Dear friends (especially those who are from Gujrat state of India),

I was so surprised to get a PM from my old friend Bani today. She was with us during the immigration journey (I-130) in 2008 and is from the state from Gujrat.

I think she had problems with the PCC from there during that time.

Bani, can you please elaborate how was your PCC experience at that time? I am glad you are here to remove the Conditions of your hubby's CR1.

Hi Loto,

Thank you so much for your kind words... Yes, my husband faced some problems while obtaining the PCC from passport office as they were only giving PCC to those who have an appointment from NVC stating their interview date for CR-1. Since we all knew that without submitting DS-230 nobody was given the appointment letter from NVC. My husband had a difficult time making the passport officals to understand that in order to get the appointment letter we have to submit the PCC first.

Also, had to find link of a person who worked in the passport office and had to bribe him in order to go inside and talk to the supervisior...

One day, I found a post of a VJ member stating what other documents can be submitted with the PCC application so that passport officals would consider taking the application for PCC. Such as Packet 4 mentioned at Mumbai Consulate website.

Loto, after my husband's visa process I found out here on VJ that they have changed the procedure for obtaining the PCC. It became a lot harder to get... I am not sure what is the method exactly...

I hope this helps...

The whole process is same ..... except that now they can issue PCC by looking at the interview letter OR missing document checklist (which NVC supposed to issue after we submit DS-230 without pcc)

Thanks Bani!

It would be useful to others from your state in India.

In India, there are still some places where you can 'please' them to get your documents ready. It is not called bribe :-) It is a mutual help so that they can spend it for their day-to-day expenses and our things would be faster as well :-)

Kruz will comment on it more :-)

Loto,

May be you are right...But still you need to give " extra money" to get your documents ready even though it is their job to get it done in the first place and it is a legal work... This is just my own thought and opinion...

I m from gujarat and i went to ahmedabad passport office yesterday to get the PCC.

First of all they did not let me in without the checklist, when i showed them the document cover sheet which gets generated after we paid the AOS fee bill they let me in. After that i stood in the freaking line for like 45 mins. then when my turn came they told me to get my husband's name in my passport that is to make a new passport in itself. what the heck is that ??

Then they took fees of 2800 rs for tatkal passport and 300 for PCC they have told that i will get both the new passport and the PCC in that in 4-5 days.

So finally i m over with this hoping to get my passport and pcc by saturday.

Hope this helps.

This is a really helpful piece of information. But Last month when my sister in law went with the same stuff, she was not allowed inside passport office and was stopped at the gate by gate keeper or security guard itself.

Well They have to really understand now that after paying DS-230 fee's .. they should just look at the Coversheet which says to send DS-230 documents..........as the process has changed a lot........

Wow that is the best news i have heard on here in a long time! Too bad we didnt try that before i sent in our DS230. Im sitting waiting for the RFE Checklist now.

Im so jealous! Others need to try this just so we know it wasnt a one-time luck thing.

When did this whole payment portal start?

How did no one ever try to show the passport office the barcde coversheet in order to obtain the PCC. Only today is the first time im hearing about it after being on VJ for 7 months.

This is seriously a breakthrough for all Indians in the state of Gujarat if they can get their PCC before sending in their DS230!

When did this whole payment portal start?

TheJesal,

You mean NVC online payment portal? If yes, it started back in April 2008. I was one of the very few who used this system in April 2008 (or should I say test their online payment system? :-))

Even before that, it was complete mail based, check payment system and used to take at least 3 months to clear NVC. James' shortcut was the first one to overcome this mail delay, but still it used to take 2 months to clear NVC. When the online payment system (with email correspondence) started, it cut down further to 1 month.

We cleared our first GC process in 6 months time from filing to Interview and being lucky in that (3.5 for I-130, 1 month in NVC and 1.5 month until Interview)

Based on your timeline in NVC, you should be done in 3 weeks.

Thanks! Interesting info.

I dont think mine will be done in 3 weeks. Lately its been taking 6-8 weeks for SIF after submitting the DS230. At least according to the latest NVC thread.

Also i didnt submit the PCC, so now im waiting for the RFE so i can use the checklist to obtain it. Hopefully its not another 6-8 weeks once i submit the PCC to NVC.

If you haven't submitted PCC as part of IV package, yes, it is going to be 2 months NVC process for you. It looks like NVC is clogged now-a-days :-)
