EAD production ordered June 16

When was your last touch on AP? I know it seems these updates are not reliable but for my AP and Welcome notice, the last touch corresponded to the postmark date.

Come on USPS! Are you keeping an eye on the flights? I know with some websites you have 24 to cancel without fees or penalties, but it's probably better to wait.

We got the notice dated June 16 as it says below; I think I misread it to say they MAILED the travel document,

which apparently has not taken place yet. We'll have to try and get it with the infopass tomorrow if it doesn't come today.

Post-Decision Activity

On June 16, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I131 APPLICATION FOR USCIS TRAVEL DOCUMENT.

Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition

to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the

processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.

The KICKER is that on the USCIS site it clearly said that "Document Production" had NOT taken place...my bad.

I thought for sure the AP document would come today

but now I'm pretty certain the infopass meeting (worst case scenario)

that I arranged last week for tomorrow was a very smart move.

When the AP & EAD notices came by email I thought they were sending out the AP right away and

arranging "production" for the EAD - apparently they were arranging production for both.

If the AP comes today I will consider that a small miracle, but tomorrow we go to the infopass

whether we get it or not. We want to clear up a few questions about what's required for the

interview, so we aren't caught on the short side and have to produce some other document that's

lacking.

EAD = Employment Authorization Document

The EAD for my wife was approved yesterday (June 16), along with the AP document which was mailed.

She will be traveling to Thailand roughly two weeks from now, but will return just before our AOS interview July 20.

How long does it take for the EAD to be produced & mailed?

The email notice said one month to be pessimistic, but what has been the actual experience?

The reason for asking is because I would like her to apply for the SSN before she goes to Thailand if possible.

I know she can get that with the EAD document, but since we have to wait an undetermined time,

could we ask for the EAD document if we already have an infopass appointment set up for June 24?

I kind of doubt it because this isn't an emergency, but the IRS needs her SSN for the 2009 tax filing

which was already sent.

On June 22, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a green card) or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, refugee travel documents or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

I was almost surprised we didn't get the EAD first, but lucked out getting the AP

the same day we went to USCIS infopass meeting that refused us because it

was in the mail. We got no hint that PRODUCTION/MAILING of AP had taken

place until we spoke to the IO at the infopass this morning. The AP was

in our mailbox by noon. It was dated June 16 and mailed June 21, arriving June 24

(2 copies, each good for ONE "Pass-Border-Check-Without-A-Visa" entry into the US).

Naturally there's all kind of language re: "no guarantees, etc. especially none of

actually being admitted to the US" but AP is what we needed and what we got.

The day AFTER we got her AP document in the mail, I checked "USCIS.GOV" =>

For the AP it still says "post-decision activity" and for EAD it says "Document Production..."

-you would expect we got the EAD first, but no.

Still don't have the EAD in the mail yet, but it's no sweat, she's going to Thailand on Monday

and will return in under 3 weeks.
