Hi everyone! I just got my green card last December 2009 and I found out today that my Philippine Passport will be expiring this June 07,2010. Where should I renew it? Isn't it that since I am a legal permanent resident, I should still be renewing it and not to get a US passport, right?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your green card status is less than one year, right? So, you are not eligible for U.S. citizenship, nor a U.S. passport, at the moment.

Yes, you should be renewing your Philippine passport. Location of renewal depends on your state. Where is your location? You are required to renew Philippine passport in person.

you can renew it at Phils Consulate in USA. Do you know where the closest one is , to you ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Where should I renew it?

To answer your question, it depends on what state you live in.

What state are you from?

NEW JERSEY.

Consulate General of the Philippines - New York has jurisdiction over New Jersey.

Again, the renewals must be in person (I don't understand that rule, but whatever).

Good luck with your passport renewal! Let us know if you need any other help.

HI everyone, just happen to see this topic, I am wondering if I should change my passport too? I was married to a US citizen, unfortunately it didn't work, when we divorced I asked to change my last name back to my maiden name. and Unfortunately again, and I guess I wasn't thinking that time, my documents including my passports carried my married name. I was planning to go back home, shall I get a new passport so my maiden name be on it? or can I still use my old passport with my married name and just carry my divorce paper with me when I purchase the ticket and fly????Huh!!! I heard that it's expensive to get/renew passport here!!!!

I thought too that they were strict with that rule. However, I have one Pinay friend who renewed her passport via mail recently. She called the embassy that has jurisdiction over her State and told them that the embassy was too far for her to travel and they allowed her to renew via mail. We can actually make excuses (e.g. cannot travel as I have a baby, cannot take time off from work, too far from my location etc. etc.). You just need to call them beforehand so they can note that you are not showing up for passport renewal.

The Embassy/Consulate also does "Outreach Program" where they travel to a certain state for consular services. Ask your consulate in advance if they are planning any outreach programs in your state.

The Los Angeles Consulate has scheduled an Outreach Program in Las Vegas on June 19-20, 2010 http://www.philippineconsulatela.org/

Really? Nice!

It really seems inefficient that one has to travel, in some cases, multiple states...just to renew a passport. The system in the Philippine isn't known for being efficient, in the first place.

I suppose if they allow mailing in renewals, it's best to get the name of the person who gave the OK. That way, if there are any problems, you could drop a line and say, "So-and-so from your office said to do this."

18/06/2010: Consular Services in Virginia Beach on July 2, 2010

The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. will conduct a consular outreach program in Virginia Beach, VA on July 2, 2010, Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. at The Travel Outlet.

The Embassy's consular team will accept and process applications for electronic passports, dual citizenship, notarization of documents, and registration of births and marriages.

Passport applicants are encouraged to set an appointment for the submission of their application and capture of the biometrics. Those with confirmed appointments will be given priority over walk-in applicants. Personal appearance is required in all cases. The telephone number to call for appointment is 757-424-3311.

Passport applicants are no longer required to bring photographs since they will have their pictures taken using ePassport data capturing machines. However, they still need to bring other necessary requirements, such as their current passport, and an application fee of $60.00.

The outreach program will also include an oath-taking ceremony for individuals who will reacquire their Filipino citizenship under the Dual Citizenship Law.

The Travel Outlet is located at 5347 Lila Lane, Suite 101, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

The application forms are available for download at www.philippineemabassy-usa.org.
