THE United States will be increasing visa fees worldwide, including Jamaica, effective Friday June 4.

All persons whose interviews fall on or after that date must pay the new fees. Applicants with interviews scheduled for June 4 and who have already paid according to the old fee schedule must now return to NCB to pay the difference for their applications to be processed.

Under the new fees petition-based visas cost more than non-petition based visas.

New fee scehdule:

Non-petition-based visas:

Visitor (B1/B2) US$140

Crewmember (C1/D) US$140

Student visas (F1 and M1) US$140

Treaty Trader/Investor (E1 or E2) US$390

Petition-based visas:

Temporary skilled workers (H-1B) US$150

Temporary seasonal workers (H-2B) US$150

Intra-company transferees (L1) US$150

Performers (O and P) US$150

Fiancé-based visas (K) US$350

A release from the US Embassy said that that the increased fees were necessary, "to better reflect the actual cost of providing services". It said that until now only 94 per cent of costs were recovered by visa fees, with the monthly US$5.4 million shortfall being borne by the US taxpayer

Although the treaty trader (E1) and treaty investor (E2) visa classes are not petition-based, they will now be set at US$390 to reflect the real cost of processing document-intensive visa categories.

I was afraid they were getting really close to approving the new fee. The US Embassy in Colombia started sending packet 3 a few weeks ago with the new visa fee printed in the paperwork but the bank was still charging $131 because the increase had not been approved, so it was more of a heads up. Bummer.

What the Fudge? They couldn't have those whose petitions already approved and at the consulate pay the old fee and those who are waiting to be approved pay the higher fee. I had to wait the full 5 months of processing time when everyone else who filed after me got approved and had their interview already. I hope with these fee increases their processing time will increase as well and you call USCIS you don't have to hear the same information that is on the petition read to you by an live operator and actually have someone that can tell you more about your case.

I'm glad we were able to pay our Visa before the increase. I think its insane to raise the fee 267%..  I believe it was done out of greed and to deter people from applying for Visas..

I really wonder if this fee increase will apply to us

We had the interview in March. They deemed him ineligible for a visa and gave him a blue slip to return with the waiver package...

Anyone know if we will be charged the additional fee on a blue slip waiver??

I am gonna call the customer service on Monday and make sure, just wondering what ya'll think...

$219 - Additional Visa Fee

$545 - Waiver Fee

$764

I read somewhere that if you paid the old fee of 131 dollars ahead of your time and your interview was June 4th or after you have to pay the difference. I could be wrong but you may want to see i you need to pay the additional 219 dollars.
