For what it's worth, we used Vanessa's totally awesome and comprehensive guide (here!) to put together our packet. She's totally outdone herself, and this guide makes it super easy!

I also wanted to ask you Megan,since Ewan has not been in the US for too long,what ,apart from your marriage certificate ,did you send in as proof?Did he get his ssn?That wiuld be fast right!

From what I can tell with the AOS, you don't need to worry about proof until the interview stage, so we should have plenty of time to "co-mingle" our lives or whatever (i.e. joint bank accounts, insurance, lease, etc.) before that stage. We applied for his SSN the same day as sending off the AOS package, so we don't expect to get it for another week or so... We sent in copies of the visa, I-94, NOA2, his birth certificate and filled all the forms, and just sent that whole bad boy off.

Tax transcripts are totally the way to go for the I-864, I reckon, by the way. My dad (co-sponsor) sent us one years' worth of 1066 with W-2, etc. and it was probably three times as many pages as my three years of tax transcripts from the IRS (which came in a week!). So yeah, compared to putting together the K-1 packet, this was a piece of cake. We took an hour or so the evening before and maybe two hours in the afternoon to do the whole thing, beginning to end, for AOS, EAD and AP.

According to UPS, it's in Chicago right now, so hopefully it'll be signed for soon!

BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!! We thought we'd lost it, so we had a frantic couple of hours searching the house til we found it again. Also, do you have a copy of the DS-3025 (vaccination record) from your medical? Or a copy of your French vaccination record? That will definitely be handy.

I cannot face even looking at the AOS stuff right now. Will face it when I get to the States. In the meantime, I have 5 weeks to dismantle my life in the UK. So much to do, and now the stress of the interview is over, I just want to sit on my butt!

Hope Ewan is settling in and you're all loved up. Hoping our Naddy is getting over the shock of American bread in comparision to the master baker French bread she will be used to!

Mrs. D, you sit back and take a load off! No need to stress about the AOS just yet! But if it eases your mind at all: we did the whole thing in a single afternoon (well, and a bit in the preceding evening, if I'm fair); it's a breeze compared to the I-129F, in my opinion.

That said, I'm well prepared to receive an RFE because I forgot to include my own proof of citizenship with the I-864 (whoops!) and there's all this controversy and such with the vaccination supplement/medical. But we'll see!

We got our NOA1s for the AOS, EAD and AP the other day, so now we're waiting for an RFE or biometrics letters!

And if this applies to any of you, they WILL send the notices to a PO Box.

Got the Biometrics letter; Ewan's appointment is for June 10. It seems like a lot of people got their RFEs before the biometrics letter, so maybe (fingers crossed!) we're in the clear for that. I tried to make it extra clear by directing them to the section of the AOS instructions about K-1 and medical, but who knows?!

Now read this, also penned by the wonderful Nich-Nick, and this is EXTREMELY interesting, not to bother going to the civil surgeon:

My personal advice:

Get your shots- MMR, Tdap. Don't know if they do varicella at NHS, but I would pay the price if the Knightsbridge folks have it. If you've had chickenpox, you don't need varicella, but it would be best if you could get your NHS office to make a list of your shots and a date you had chickenpox. My husband's nurse took his word for it. Take that to the visa medical. They will give you a copy of the immunization worksheet they sign (DS-3025). Mail that in with AOS, skip the Civil Surgeon copying your list to a new form for $$, and cross your fingers. Don't be afraid of an RFE because your are married, together and two weeks just doesn't have the same impact on you. Again, it's my personal opinion to give the "rebel" advice, but I never offer advice unless I am very sure it's a safe bet. And we never got an RFE for the whole process.

So since I have some time on my hands and also a whole lot to do really,which I should but am not,I thought I will start filling out the easy portions of some of the AOS forms.Ahem!

I know you made it clear,but let me rephrase again.

We finish POE formalities.Then I have read everywhere that you normally wait for 2 weeks for your name and info to be saved in their database.Then we make a trip to the SSA right?So we have sorta bumped up our wedding date,we figured there was no point waiting.So what if my marriage takes place before that 2 week trip to the SSA,and I have applied for a name change,should I go only once then to them?

I have a ssn already,which I think I will retain right?If I do,then I will simple have to get a new card with the new name reflecting,right?

For some reason,this is confusing me a bit.

And I think I will just stick with these tax papers for the AOS part too.Do not want to bother John or his dad over ordering tax transcripts.

Ewan's biometrics day is approaching.I am glad its all happening fast and he can be all ready to work too

Yeah, I think you're right about that, since you already have the number, you should just need to change to reflect the name change. In which case you go after the wedding. It might pay to read through the SS form thingy (I think there's one in the downloads section of VJ) and if it's still unclear, start a thread about it. But your logic seems very sound to me on this, ya know?

Yup! I'm a little bit worried that I'll have to go up north for work when he has his appointment (I want to be there to drive him, since bussing in Miami is madness and you can't plan on being somewhere when the bus is supposed to get you there!) but I'm trying to swing it so that I can be around... Thursday morning! I hope it all goes smoothly, too. I'll be back with a full report!

A couple of UK people have submitted their AOS without the civil surgeon transcription and I'll report back here when they report whether they got an RFE or not.
