Translating documents for the NVC

I am in the process of trying to get a couple of documents translated from their original language, in this case Urdu, to english.

Other then the following info on translating documents

Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

Is there a special requirement on who can translate them, I mean if I have a relative who is well versed in the local language and english can they translate them?

Anyone can translate as long as they include the required statement you noted above.

I do remember a friend who did translate all his documents himself. In addition, he wrote a letter certifying that he is capable of translating the document and the translation is correct. they accepted his paper. i am not sure who will look at your paperwork, though.

Yep. A letter might be a bit much. I translated all of our documents. My certification statement was:

I, TheBears, hereby certify that I am fluent in the English and Thai languages and that this is a true and accurate translation of the attached Marriage Certificate.

It was a footnote on all of the translations.

Great, so theoretically my wife or her brother can translate her birth certificate and that would be acceptable as long as the statement above is included? Would the statement need to be written on a photocopy of the translation or just on a seperate piece of paper attached to the original document being translated, in this case a birth certificate?

Well, I assumed that you would take care of it. I am not sure how much credibility they gave to a national of another country without endorsement from a legal resource. Please find out more before taking any actions.

I can do the translation myself for her birth certificate any ideas if that would be good enough for the NVC?

I am not sure about NVC, but my friend was dealing with the U.S. embassy in Pakistan. He had K-3. As the other member stated, i am sure you should be fine. good luck!

This question would be from out of topic, but I wanted to ask you if you are also submitting Police certificate at this time to NVC?

My wife's passport had two biographic pages. The first was in English and the second was in Russian and Belarussian. The only difference between the two was her patronymic/middle name was not included in the English page, but was for the Rusian/Belarussian page. I had my Russian Professor (who has a Phd in Russian Language and Literature) translate the second document with the lines "I __________________ certify that the translation is accurate, and that the translator is competent to translate." Singed_________ (with his credentials)...

I am kind of in the same boat as you. I hope the NVC realizes the only difference was the patronymic/middle name and that they accept his translation.

Wait, I thought English was the second official language of Pakistan. Don't you get English copies of everything along with Urdo?

i'm thinking the same thing. i asked my husband to mail me the ds320 package and i had both BC and Marriage certificate in URDU/English.

y would u even bother getting a translation if u have urdu or english

if u have ur documents other than urdu or english then u must provide a translation coz the embassy u're going to be interviewed at will accept urdu or english..

So I reached out to the NVC today and spoke to someone there about this issue. They informed me that I can do the translations myself as long as I include the statement listed above.

Also the operator told me thar I can submit the document in Urdu and they will translate it in Islamabad when it gets there. Documents now are available in both english and urdu but that is for new documents the older original documents are still mostly in urdu so they have to be translated.
