My wife just had her biometrics; this is for those of us who are waiting for the AOS interview for

the 2-year Green Card.

I don't think my experience will be helpful - at least, I hope it won't be. This was a number of years back. I filed in July 2004, had biometrics in August, 2004, my file was transferred to CSC in September, 2005, I had second biometrics in February, 2006 and received my AOS green card approval in May 2006 - so it was 21 months after my first biometrics and 3 months after my 2nd biometrics that my green card was approved. I did not, however, have an interview (nor did I have an RFE - no idea why it took so long).

In Pras' AOS case 4 months--due to an RFE. I didn't send her birth-cert, but sent her passport in; to answer the RFE, we had to get her birth cert--and her 10^TH-class cert--and send these to USCIS.

For her N-400 application, 3 months between biometrics and interview--followed by 4 months interview to swear-in.

(for my own N-400, 4 months biometrics-to-interview, 1 month interview-to-swearin)

We had a pretty straightforward experience, from Bio date to interview date was 2 months and one week exactly. We were VWP adjusters. This was about a year ago.

Had to look up my timeline though.

It seems that there is a wider difference in the range of "waiting for interview" times between K-1 and AOS approvals.

I don't mean to say one or the other necessarily takes longer on average, but my perception is

(may be wrong in others' opinions) that on average, the length (meaning range) of time

of "waiting for interview" for K-1's is shorter (comparing the fastest to the slowest) than that

of the AOS filers waiting for their interview.

What I mean is that the RANGE of "waiting for interview" time is shorter for K-1,

not to mean that average K-1 filer gets approved any quicker than average AOS filer.

I think the consulates try to just get the interviews done in the shortest time frame they can

but with the AOS process waiting times for the interview tend to be longer. They may AVERAGE

out to be shorter for AOS, if the ones approved without interviews are taken into consideration.

- I just saw in another thread a mention of a "receipt" for biometrics.

My wife didn't mention this after her successful walk-in, but when I checked her

passport, the I-94 form that has been stapled opposite her K-1 visa page

had been REPLACED with another I-94 form, shown as follows:

1) Departure number (same as on original I-94).

2) the "admitted stamp" showing her POE date (December 29 2009)

and K-1 status with the date of biometrics (March 29 2010) written

at the bottom.

3) Lastname, Firstname, Country (as before)

Nothing there said it was for biometrics, but they got to use the

same form for 2 purposes (holy government efficiency, Batman!).

We're still around 5 weeks since her successful walk-in and counting...

we hope for an interview before July, but it's already June 2.

Our interview will take place 47 days after the biometrics were taken. I rounded up to 1 month 3 weeks to not skew the statistics to give anyone waiting more stress.

I'm happy to see the results of this poll so far. I felt like our interview letter came so quickly that it made me nervous that it was just a formality toward some sort of negative outcome. Paranoia really does take hold during this process. But it seems we are fairly average in the timeline.

I also think it might have something to do with the particular office. We are going through the office in New Orleans. I don't think it is particularly busy with regard to this sort of thing, certainly not as busy as a large, northeastern city would be, for example. I know when we went for an infopass to find out if we were legal to AOS the guy mentioned that they were processing AOS applications in about 45 days in that office. I didn't actually believe him, but when I counted up the days for this poll, I see he was pretty much right on for us.

Something tells me we'd be better off in the "Big Easy" than in the "Big Sleazy" (NYC).

In any case, we'll be thinking about an infopass in a week or so because she wants

to be in Thailand for her son's university (Chulalongkorn U.) graduation.

He was a top student at the best university in Thailand and my wife who was

the best teacher in Thailand for her province in 2008 doesn't want to miss that.
