Should I get the back of my birth certificate translated as well? Seems irrelevant to me, but I don't want to mess it up!

Perhaps not for the interview stage, no. Later on, once in the US and you file AOS with USCIS you might end up translating it.

Don't Canadian BCs have English on them (or English versions)?

hey,

you definitely need the long form (15$ - bureau de l'état de civil), not the card-size.

It has to have the name of your parents and your place of birth.

i got mine two octobers ago. inside of 2 weeks. in english from quebec. i also paid the rush fee as i needed it for my passport at the time. did it all online.

the link la souris gave shows you security features. this is in effect a duplicate in english of what is on the back of the birth certificate. although my bc is in english, the back is not. and this is directly off the quebec govt site so it's a free translation from them.

As Kizza and Kimbear said, you need the long form "Quebec: Applicants should obtain "certified copies of an act" from the Direction de l' Etat Civil in Montreal (2050, rue de Bleury, sixth floor, tel:514-864-3900) or the Directeur de l'Etat Civil in Quebec City (2535, boulevard Laurier, Ground Floor, Sainte-Foy, tel:418-643-3900; fax:418-646-3255). You can print the page about the security features, or just provide the link to the page, to your translator - you shouldn't have to pay to get it translated since it's already provided by the government.

Edit to add: I placed the order for mine online and I got it in 10 days or so, without paying the rush fee. I got a few more copies from my translator too for a few dollars, since I suspect I may need them in the future and it was easier to have them done at the same time.

One more thing...

I just ordered my long birth certificate online. However, I never saw an option to have it made in English. I will call them tomorrow to see if that can be done. If not, this is what I'm going to do:

- my translator will translate it for me and sign and date a paper that states "I certify that the present document is an exact translation from French to English and that I have the competencies to perform such a translation".

- I will have it notarized

(I also did this with my criminal background check)

Is this going to be ok?
