Males from certain "T" countries are required to undergo administrative processing. I believe that although Egypt is not considered a "T" country it still has AP as to it's location in the general Muslim/Middle east area. Probably be better to ask in the MENA forum.

Moved to MENA forum from Removal of Conditions Forum (via K-1 forum). Good suggestion, bellinda63.

• What is Administrative Processing?

AP is also called Additional Administrative Processing and is when the applicant is being checked more closely. It can be for security checks which encompass fingerprints and/or name checks or for document verification.

• When does Administrative Processing Happen?

AP can happen at any time during your processing. It can happen at a service center, at the NVC level, or at the embassy level. It mainly is discussed here in the forums at the embassy level.

• Who can get Administrative Processing and Why?

AP usually affects men and women from certain countries but anyone can get AP. Persons coming from T countries (Terrorist Countries) seem to have more security checks and have to endure AP at the embassy level after their interview. Common names, your nationality, religion, education, relationship of applicant, travels and job can all be factors for AP. Having incomplete or missing documents will also cause a case to be put in AP. In some cases if the embassy does not believe in the validity of the relationship they can investigate it further with a field investigation.

• What are the T-Countries?

Although it is classified, the list of countries reportedly affected by these restrictions includes, but is not limited to, Afghanistan,

Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt,

Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,

Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia,

Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates,

and Yemen.

• Can I check the status of my case?

The embassy will not in many cases respond to emails until a certain amount of time has elapsed. The best bet is to contact Department of State aka: DOS and ask them for an update bi-weekly. They will not be able to give you details but they can tell you if the case is still pending in AP or cleared.

• DOS information: DOS can be contacted Monday through Friday during business hours. You must have all information concerning your case with you so that they can assist you.

Department of State’s visa Information phone number: 202-663-1225 then press 1 and then press 0 .

• Can I expedite this process?

The simple answer is NO. No one can expedite the checks since they are considered a matter of National security. An elected official can only make a congressional inquiry on your behalf. They cannot get the checks finished any faster.

• Does AP have any time frame for completion? NO AP can last anywhere from days, weeks, months and in a few cases years.

Anyone that happens to be given a 221(g) or Administrative Processing letter must be patient and let them do their work. Do not call constantly and ask about your case. Remember each time your case is moved it can then end up at the bottom of the stack and your time can be extended. Each case is different so you cannot judge your case by any other and each consulate/embassy may have a different average time for completion of AP.

I hope that help you somehow to understand what does AP means ?

How long it has been since they put your case under AP ? It has been almost a year for me and still no visa !

You can join us in ''Cairo's final review club'' thread .Its for people who are under AP or under final review .here is the link of that thread Cairo's final review club

Good luck and my best wishes for ya .

By this do you mean DOS? You shouldn't call them often because each time you call them they move your case to the bottom? Or is this the embassy?

They may or may not do a field investigation, pretty rare from what I have seen here. They may send someone out to interview your fiance/spouse, their family, neighbors, etc. to determine it the relationship is legitimate. Usually they just ask a few questions such as do you know this person, do you know they are married/engaged? Have you ever met them? etc.

Again rare but it can happen.

Many of us going thru Cairo have had field investigations. Don't know about other countries, but seems Egypt will do them.

Usually someone will interview your neighbors and family members. It's pretty standard procedure from Cairo, with some members

having a couple field investigations.

Shortly after we got my husband's interview email, they had someone go to his hometown and do a field investigation on my husband. They interviewed his brothers and sister and mom, also investigated his internet cafe and talked to different people in his village and in Luxor. It's not that rare.

You might want to get your fiance/spouse to sign the following petition -- my husband is in AP and as a U.S. citizen, I found the lack of accountability and transparency so disturbing, I put this together:

hi,my husband and i are going through a similar ordeal.

There was a mistake in my date of birth on my previous international passport

that i used to apply for visa in 2009. The mistake has been corrected.

Bcos of that, our case was put under Administrative

processing. My first interview was March 2011 while my last interview was 20th september 2011

where i was made to submit my Original birth certificate,

Driving licence, Church Baptism card and Affidavite of date of birth. Was told that i would be called

back within 2month after the AP.

we pray every day to get a call from them bcos we have not seen each other for 1year now.

we are barely surviving without each other.

pls is there anyone with similar experience

and please what kind of investigaton are they going to do?
