I'm really curious to see if LingChe's Shortcut worked for claireg because that might be a good option for us, too.

Thanks for the advice, elmcitymaven, but Juarez is kind of a unique situation. NVC schedules appointments for CJ and I'm not sure where Packet 3 comes from. Anyhow, one of our members was going to try to send in the Packet early, I'm not sure whether to the consulate or NVC, and I was wondering how that went. I guess I should have labeled it "our DCF (possible) shortcut." :)

Well, that I didn't know! Wow, what a pain.

I shall store that nugget away in the "random facts about DCF" file in my brain. Thanks! :) And more importantly, good luck and best wishes for a speedy process!

Heehee, I'm actually going to admit I''m wrong...When you said that at first, I did some research and it looks like the people on family based immigration sent their NVC forms to Juarez...and maybe Juarez even schedules for us! That would actually be good news. So thanks for reminding me to do some checking up! I was getting confused :o So I'm not sure if claireg sent her Packet 3 to CJ or Mx City, but I bet CJ?

Thanks for the good wishes and helping me figure out where I was going :D

For historical (and really boring) reasons, you can't link to anything on that website. I've done it as a tinyurl so people can see what you're talking about: Mexico - Appointment Date Set

As far as I know, claireg sent it to Mexico City. She actually asked me for the phone number to call and check why her money order hadn't been cashed yet. I guess you going in person will be good. You might get approved before we do.

Hello...

I am american citizen by naturalization (and mexican by birth).. I have lived in mexico for the past 3 years. I want to return to USA with my husband and baby(mexicans). I dint now about DCF until a few days ago by this site.

I wll try to do a DCF, this thursday I have an appoinment in US Embassy in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon because i have so many questions !!.

1)we must go to ciudad juarez or they do the process in monterrey?. I hope we dont have to travel to cd juarez. 2)I will need a sponsor because i dont have a US income.. Can I use a sponsor?..

3)In the web page of the embassy says that the DFC can be filed there if the american citizen has a FM2 or FM3 mexican immigration permits (but becasue i am mexican by birth I do not need them,, so i dont have them)

4) How long time takes the process

etc..

If you know about it please share the information with me..if not.. I will be posting what they tell me on thursday.

Gracias..es bueno encontrar otros mexicanos con el mismo proceso que yo !!

Yay! Another DCFer! Welcome, Marisol!

1. The petition can be sent through the embassy, but all immigrant visa interviews are in Ciudad Juarez. Yuck, we know.

2. You can use a cosponsor. As the spouse, you are always the primary sponsor and still have to fill out the I-864 even if you have no US income. You can also use assets, but they have to be 3x the amount needed.

3. I think you should be fine, but they will tell you at the embassy. I would assume you would need a Mexican passport or birth certificate to prove that.

4. We don't know! Hopefully less than a year! I have seen that most regular IR-1s and CR-1s for Mexico are taking about 6-8 months right now so we would hopefully be faster!

Can you ask some questions at your appointment? Ask them if they process the USCIS part of the visa there (NOA1 until NOA2 - petition approval.) Then ask them where it gets sent - NVC or Ciudad Juarez. I would also like to know who provides the interview date, NVC or Ciudad Juarez, and if we can send in the I-864 sooner or if we have to wait for Packet 3.

Good luck in your meeting and tell us what they say!
