LOL!

It's been 3 years. She can't go far without calling me. I'm not a protective twit. When she understands more English, she'll probably start to go out more.

I'll bet they understand O.C. (Pepper Spray). Buy her some, then allow her to go out!!!! :crying:

Luis's English isn't that great, but I send him all over the place to get stuff for me  He has mastered the art of ordering coffee at Dunkin Donuts

Actually getting out there and talking to people is the only way he's going to learn. That and by going to English classes I guess. From what I've noticed, he's learned more about conversation by actually talking to others & the classes just help him with his writing & reading.

She don't understand English. Not many people speaks Cambodian. She's a cute Asian. But, she is scared to even travel alone.

my best friend's in-laws are cambodian. so i have been working on learning khmer.

my husband's english is excellent. so no worries there. he said at the interview the american was speaking to him in hindi, and he told him no, he wanted to do the interview in english :P

Oh and plus he has a job where he works with people who speak Spanish, Spanish and English, and only English. So that helps too.

He is getting really good but still gives us a laugh. This is something he said to me the other day:

I asked him if he wanted a sandwich from Panera bread because my mom & grandma were ordering. I asked in English, so he could practice.

Our convo:

Luis: "I want chicken sandwich but no napkins."

Me: ??? "OK... but why?"

Luis: "I no really like napkins."

Me: "How are you going to clean your hands?"

Luis:

Me: "Well they don't put napkins on your sandwich so it's no big deal."

Luis: "Last time they put napkins on sandwich."

Me: "What? No they didn't."

Luis: "You say to them, no napkins."

Me:

Luis: "Why you laughing in my face?"

Me:

So he knows something is up, starts to get frustrated and opens the refrigerator and gets out the bacon.

Luis:  "Oh... is bacons."

Me:

I (L) my husband :D

That was so awesome. I have a story like this about me too with Spanish but I'll tell it at a later time probably in the Latin America forum.

 true that. It is important to go out and face the world. I go out all the time, my English is good, though I do have an accent but I haven't faced any problem because of that. If you won't interact with other people you will never learn. I had hard time understanding what others are talking, you know the southern slangs and ebonics mix, but I am getting there now, I do know when someone is b*tching about their baby daddy or whatever :P

Does your wife drive? I go by bus everywhere, I am sure she can make her way to walmart or any grocery stores, its not like someone can attack her there in middle of everyone around.
