Well, I am back from my precious dear Infopass app. and I wanted to share my experience. :innocent:

I arrived 15 minutes early at the Fairfax, VA USCIS office. To be honest I didn't even know if I was allowed to go there, but I took the risk and it was ok. The reason is simple: I recently changed my address and when I entered my new home zip code to schedule the infopass appointment, I was directed to the Baltimore office which is way too far for me. So I chose the Fairfax, VA center for 3 reasons: 1.it is closer, 2.my AOS interview was handled there and 3.I wasn't sure if my change of address was updated in their data base.

Again, nobody asked me why did I choose this location so it seems like it really didn't matter.

First, I asked about my address and it was updated. Great! I asked if my background check has been cleared, she checked for me and she confirmed "yes, it has been cleared." Awesome  , I was worried that I might have been stuck in some long term background checks. By the way, do you guys know that there were people on this forum who waited up to 2 years to have their background ckeck cleared?

She said that there is nothing left to be done right now, just to wait. Hopefully in 6-8 weeks an officer (not the one who interviewed us) will be asigned to my case and make a decision.

I told her that it would be nice to not get delayed too much and put in a position to renew my EAD. Now here is the crazy part. She sais : "Have you been working for your company for a long time, are they comfortable with you?(I answered "Yes"). Do they ckeck your EAD expiration date periodically?(I answered "NO, they don't ckeck my EAD"). Well, - she sais- "In that case dont worry, don't bother to renew your EAD, you don't have to go through that". Damn! :wow::bonk: I have never heard something like this before. I was like "Really?" She sais "Yes, don;t worry about it. " I didn't challenge her anymore in regards to this matter, I already got my answers so I left. Am I going to follow this piece of advice if my EAD expires and no AOS decision?Oh, hell, NO!What would you guys do?

So I guess at this point I just have to hang in here and wait. I will go back there maybe in 60 days if I don't hear anything by then. God, I hope it will not be the case! :crying:

Everybody else, good luck!

Awww Juliava, I feel so bad for you and I really sympathise over your situation. I can only imagine how stressed I would be. It sucks they're keeping you waiting all this time. Really hope you get a decision made soon.

For the EAD I would renew it. It was strange what she said...

I used to work in HR and there were certain documents we had to get new versions of if they were expired typically non-immigrant documents such as visas. I know by law we couldn't ask for a new gc if a gc expired. But I can't remember the law on EAD's. It does also depend on how detail focused/organized/knowledgeable your HR office is.

You might want to download the `I9 handbook for employers' just put that phrase into google and it's a free download i'm pretty sure the exact law on whether your employer would need to request a new EAD is in there.

Really hope you get your GC soon - you really deserve it! it doesn't seem fair you being kept in limbo. Fingers crossed for you that your GC will be here b4 Christmas... :star:

Marie, thank you for your nice words.

Unfortunately I have no other choice than waiting. I do understand that immigration is a privilege, not a right. Especially when you have a long overstay involved in this process.

I really hope you hear something soon! We also had our interview at the Fairfax office but we were approved on the spot. And I just looked at our time lines and it seems you guys and us were at the office on the same day! LOL... What time was your appointment? Seems like they are starting to take longer for a lot of people.

Hi Lechatnoir, what a coincidence with the interview date and location! I guess you are luckier than me that day, it looks like your AOS process didn''t take long at all. Our interview was scheduled for 10:30am and it went very well, the IO was a very pleasant African American man. He even told us at the end that he was sorry that he couldn't finalize everything on the same day because of my missing fingerprints!

You are right, the person I spoke to at the info pass appointment implied that at the Fairfax office the applications' processing is currently slowing down due to limited staff availability versus number of applications and that they will be back on track only after the holidays. Oh well, I still hope that I will get a response before the end of the year!

Hehe... well our appointment was at 1:00, so you were probably gone by the time we got there! But that is such a coincidence. Our process did go really fast... I was shocked. Course, it wasn't without a little stress as our IO was very scary and I got really scared because my husband got so nervous that as soon as we got in she asked him what our address was and he was like.... ummmm... its ummm... and I was thinking oh dear God... lol. He was just really nervous and this lady had a thick spanish accent and my husband couldn't understand her english all the time. Then she asked us if he intended to marry me when he arrived! So, it was a little nerve wracking... and our stupid lawyer just sat in the back playing with his cell phone the whole time. :)

I'm sure you will be fine! Saspk had to wait forever but came out ok in the end! Maybe you'll get a nice Christmas present!

Oh, I hope I would get something soon too before the end of the year. Thank you for your encouraging message. I remember I was nervous too before the interview, but the moment we met our IO and I heard his calm voice I was not nervous anymore. :) My husband -the USC-was fine too, everything seemed to be like a nice conversaton with someone who wants to know you better and become friends. We didn't feel interogated at all. I was quite disappointed at the end when we walked out "empty handed" but I just need to be patient I guess and play their game.

Nothing new yet, guys... :crying: And with the holidays coming up it's just getting depressing.

I am thinking about scheduling another infopass, but what for? They asked me to wait, so really Saspk, what did you ask them every single time you scheduled and showed up for your infopasses?

I heard somebody on this forum saying that "he called USCIS and placed a Service Request". I dialed their number, but none of their options sends me to place a "Service Request". Can anyone shed some light on this, please?I appreciate your help.
