The former Massachusetts governor, in an interview with CNBC's Larry Kudlow, said he thought there were legitimate reasons to want Mr. Obama out of the White House - but that "birther"-inspired claims were not credible.

"I think the citizenship test has been passed. I believe the president was born in the United States. There are real reasons to get this guy out of office," Romney said, the day after formally announcing the formation of a presidential exploratory committee.

Poll: 63 Percent of Iowa Republicans Won't Back a Candidate Who Supported a Health Care Mandate

There are still signs within the poll of a tough road ahead for Romney even if some of his most prominent potential rivals do bow out though- only 11% of Iowa Republicans say they'd be willing to vote for someone who supported a bill at the state level mandating that people have health insurance compared to 63% who say that would be a disqualifier.

It will be interesting to see if Romney's support can hold up once voters in the state get bombarded with communication about his health care record.

*certain* he wasn't? I don't have enough information to make that

determination and I suspect that neither do you.

One thing is clear - there's no smoke without fire. Birthers wouldn't

exist today if Obama produced his long-form birth certificate. And no,

a "certificate of live birth" is not the same thing.

The certificate in addition to the statements by Hawaiian vital statistics that a record of birth is on file do tell you the only thing you need to know. That he was born in Hawaii.

When we spoke to a spokeswoman for the Hawaii Department of Health, she said too much was being made of the difference between the so-called "long" and "short" forms.

"They're just words," said spokeswoman Janice Okubo. "That (what was posted on the Internet) is considered a birth certificate from the state of Hawaii."

"There's only one form of birth certificate," she said, and it's been the same since the 1980s. Birth certificates evolve over the decades, she said, and there are no doubt differences between the way birth certificates looked when Obama was born and now.

"When you request a birth certificate, the one you get looks exactly like the one posted on his site," she said. "That's the birth certificate."

Why should he? If someone at your job started screaming like a moron "I dont' believe you are eligible to work here, I want to see your birth certificate", would you show him, even though you had already shown it to a much more qualified person to evaluate your credentials to work in this country (HR)?
