Im looking for anyone who has had there visa either approved or denied using a co-sponser from there interview in the philippines. Ive been hearing conflicting stories about this embassy in manila. Does anyone know were I can find this info on the uscis website about having to use the I-134 at the interview ? If anyone has had used a co-sponser please share your experiences with us. I went to the immigration office today out here where I live and asked that same question. They told me that I only need to fill out that I-134 after she gets here in america. Its only for the adjustment of status . I dont think he was right in his answer because he had to go ask somebody my question. I just hope to find an answer soon . Thanks vj menbers, hope to hear something positive soon.

Look here for the most accurate info...it's the Manila US Embassy website this page shows all you need for interview stage of visa process. Below I pulled from this page the info on Evidence of Support

n. EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You should also submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included to substantiate the I-134. Download Form I-134 at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

What you hear from people is either...their experience, something someone told them, something they read or THOUGHT they read. Many people say Manila will not use a co-sponsor when it comes to a K1 and many people say they will. Your best bet is to read the info on their website and email or call them personally and ASK them and see what they tell YOU.

And as for what the immigration office told you about the 1-134, I would disregard it because it's wrong...Adjustment of Status uses the 1-864, similiar to the I-134 but has more ramifications when it come to binding in court.

Good Luck

Recently there have been posts here on VJ from folks going through Manila stating that co-sponsors for K visa petitions are accepted.

Check the PI regional forum for better information.

Hi there. Ive been told that the Manila USEM does not accept a cosponsor when it comes to I-134. We really did not know if this was true or not so just to be prepared my mother-in-law answered an I134 too and I had her tax returns when i went to the embassy last July 13. When the first interviewer asked for my husband's I134(my husband's yearly income is way way too low), I gave it to her but I also mentioned that he has a new job now and also gave her his employment letter. I didn't give my mother-in-law's I134 anymore coz i thought ill just give it to the final interviewer if he mentions anything about it. When i was being interviewed by the CO, he just browsed my husband's I134 and asked what he does. All the questions were almost about me.. I had also read that as long as the petitioner has a job, that would be accepted. So i guess prepare another I134 too just in case they bring it up. I hope this helps. :)

I e-mailed to the Manila Embassy about the use of a co-sponsor. here is their e-mail response. I hope it helps.

Reference: Fiancé(e) Visa Information

Date: April 24, 2009

This is in reply to your inquiry of April 24, 2009, regarding your visa concerns.

Petitioners in fiancé(e) (K1) nonimmigrant visa cases are generally expected to provide the adequacy of their own financial resources to ensure that an alien, after admission into the United States, will not become primarily dependent on the US Government for subsistence. While our immigration law does not disallow joint sponsorships for K nonimmigrant visa applicants, the mere submission of an I-134 Affidavit of Support from joint sponsors is not sufficient to establish that the alien is not likely to become a public charge. Accordingly, we make a thorough evaluation of other factors, such as the sponsor’s motives in submitting the Form I-134, the sponsor’s relationship to the applicant or petitioner, the length of time the sponsor and applicant have known each other, etc. An I-134 Affidavit of Support submitted by a casual friend or distant relative who has little or no personal knowledge of the applicant has limited value. Unlike the I-864 filed by joint sponsors in immigrant visa cases, the I-134 is not legally binding and imposes no legal obligation on the joint sponsor to make good on his or her promises. Please be assured that we look at the totality of circumstances in assessing the credibility of joint sponsorships.

For information about financial sponsorship guidelines, you may visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at http://www.uscis.gov.

Information regarding fiancé(e) and immigrant visa petitions may be found at our website at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...types_1315.html or http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3204.html.

Please direct future fiancé(e) and immigrant visa inquiries to this web link: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3230.html.

We hope this information is helpful to you.
