interpretation of NVC case number

does any one know what the numbers mean in the NVC case number...I know the letters are the embassy where the interview will take place...the first 4 numbers are the year NVC recieved the file...but what do the rest of the numbers mean. are any of them the priority date for our file? does any one know what they are?????

just really curiosity about this. I was thinking it could help to determine when an interview appt would be scheduled upon completion. any ideas??

Case Number: The National Visa Center (NVC) gives each immigrant petition a case number. This number has three letters followed by ten digits (numbers). The three letters are an abbreviation for the overseas embassy or consulate that will process the immigrant visa case (for example, GUZ for Guangzhou, CDJ for Ciudad Juarez).

The digits tell us exactly when NVC created the case. For example a case with the number MNL2001747003 would be a case assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. 2001 is the year in which NVC received the case from the USCIS (formerly INS). The Julian date is 747 plus 500, so this case was created on September 4, 2001, the 247th day of the year. The 003 shows that it was the third case created for Manila on that day. This case number is not the same as the USCIS receipt number, which is written on the Notice of Action, Form I-797, from the USCIS. A consular section abroad cannot find a case if all you have is the USCIS receipt number.

I found the most recent date entry and it seems to be this: BMB2007775001 CR1 3/26/2008 7:30

From this number, I was able to calculate that an NVC case created on Oct 3, 2007 has an interview on March 26, 2008 at the Mumbai, India consulate.

Not the best news, since 6 months from NVC to Interview is still an awful lot of time

Well, don't worry that much. 6 months is time from entering system to actual interview.

I did same think with embassy at Warsaw and here are my conclusions:

#NVC number is the number when case enter their system and you can speed processing time at this stage by using shortcus not many doing this

# on web page cases go from lowest numbers to highest HOWEVER it is not apply to interviews dates e.i. WRW2007778001 has interview on February 26 and WRW2007844008 has interview on February 2( maybe as a result of being K1v. IR/CR but still)

#each case is different

you minus 500 that will give you the number and last 3 digit does not show how many cases they have asigned in a day but in the month of september for that embassy.

hello i got confused to my case number too.. we got our case number this year on the month of april.. but our case got sent back to uscis ..so uscis sent it back again to nvc september this year.. but when we asked nvc our case number they gave us the same case number..i think they should give us a new one..
