Comments : Handed over my passport with visa and arrival documents plus the yellow envelope I was given. The officer basically made sure I knew I had to get married within 90 days, checked to make sure all the documents in the envelope were in order and sent me on my way. Very easy, no hassles.

Embassy Review : As I am from Perth I flew into Sydney the night before and checked into my hotel at 11pm. My interview was for 8am and I got to the consulate at 7:20am but couldn't get to level 10 until 7:30am. I waited around for a few minutes before they opened up the reception and allowed me in, I was the first in for the day. After going through the security screening I waited in the front row of chairs until 8am, at which point the first row of chairs was allowed up to the 59th floor.

Once on the 59th floor I was first in and took ticket number 001 and was pretty much immediately called to the first available window. I handed over my documents, took fingerprint scans and was asked to sit down until I was called again. I was called back to the same window and the lady handed back my original documents and asked me to take a seat in the middle area until called by the consular officer.

I sat down for about 5 minutes before I was called up to the window by an American lady. I had my middle right finger scanned and I was then asked a series of questions. I lost track of exactly what was asked but I will try to list what I can remember the best I can:

- Have you ever had any criminal convictions?
- Have you ever had any trouble with the law in the United States?
- Have either of you been married before?
- Do either of you have children?
- When did you first meet and under what circumstances?
- When did you become romantically involved?
- How did you keep in contact?
- Have you been to the US before?
- When did you go to the US?
- Have you ever stayed longer than 90 days in the US?
- Has your fiancée been to Australia?
- What does your fiancée do for a living?
- What does your fiancée study?
- Where does your fiancée study?
- What do you do for a living?
- Have you met your fiancée's family?
- How many brothers and sisters does your fiancée have?
- Where do your fiancée's siblings live?

I then noticed she was flicking through the affidavit of support documents which started to worry me. My fiancée is in school and works part time as a waitress so to help supplement the application I submitted my property value as assets. She mentioned how she wanted to make sure I would not become a public charge and how it was tough attending school and working at the same time. She seemed satisfied enough with the documents I submitted though and said "you can relax now, your visa has been approved". She handed me a letter stating the approval with the express post tracking number attached and explained how they would be sending the visa out in 24 to 48 hours.

I was out of there by about 8:30am. All in all, it was a very good experience. I was happy I got there early and was out of there quickly, it made for a stress free day. I was a little surprised by the number of questions I was asked regarding the relationship, I'm sure there were more questions, I just can't think of them now. It didn't bother me though, I was just happy to be approved.
Rating : Very Good

Embassy Review : Our appointment was for 10:00am, we arrived at about 9:30am, handed in our appointment notice and sat down and waited. After waiting for 1 and a half hours, I thought I would ask to see if there was any issues with my case since it was taking so long. Just as I was about to ask, my name was called.

We were lead into an office and were then told that the person handling my case was not in today, which was the reason for the delay. The interviewing officer mentioned he wasn\'t familiar with my case but would try to see if he could get it all sorted today.

We were then asked to take an oath. He then proceeded to go through the application, asking questions from the application to verify everything was legit. The questions were fairly straight forward (e.g. mother/father's name, phone number, addresses you lived at, etc..). After going through the application he said everything looked in order, however since he wasn't the person handling the case he would have to review a few more things before approving it. I'd either get a letter in the mail asking for more evidence or a green card within 30 days. I submitted a bank statement and insurance policy as further evidence of a shared life together. He didn't ask to see anything else apart from our passports.

The interview took about 30 minutes. I would say it would have been quicker if we had the original interviewing officer. The officer we had was pleasant enough, he joked a bit but was mostly professional in his approach. Apart from the 1 and a half hour wait, it was a good experience.

Later that day I got an email from USCIS saying they had ordered production of my new card.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
