Consulate Review: Dublin, Ireland
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 3, 2012
Embassy Review : Time at embassy = 1 hour and 15 mins, breakdown roughly as follows:
10 minute chat with friendly security
5 minutes at counter preparing documents with grumpy lady
45 minutes waiting
15 minute interview

Interview scheduled for 1.45 I arrived at security at 1.30. It was simple airport like security, they provide you with a locker to put your electronics in but I was allowed to bring my briefcase in with me for documents. Chatted to the friendly security guys for a while and entered the building at 1.45 to my name being called over the tannoy to go immediately to counter#3. I am glad I had prepared my documents frivolously as it was pretty quick from here on in. It was relatively quiet in there when arrived, not so when I was leaving,I'd advise to get there early and try to get in ASAP

The infamous grumpy Irish lady asked for;
my passport and one photo,
to write my name and address on my large envelope with €8 stamp attached,
Police certificate
She asked if I had copies of my marriage cert and birth certificate and tax information if they needed them, which I did but after she checked my NVC, file did not take from me.
She was supposed to ask me to open the sealed medical envelope and remove the report from inside and give it to her but I think she forgot to as my interviewer pretty much scolded her in front of me for it later (yay one up for VJ 'ers on grumpy embassy lady)
A few simple questions about how long we had been married and where I intend to live in the US and she told me to sit down and wait to be called.this took 5 minutes if even that.

I did not have to pay anything at counter#1 at this point as I am on IR-1 spousal visa route but they guy beside me on the k-1 route had to pay after this part, I didn't know how much but I do know he offered a credit card or the exact amount in dollars and euros to which she replied that she was willing to accepted all of these methods of payment. (he chose credit card as he said he wanted to blow the cash celebrating in Ireland and then in the US haha)

I was called up to counter number 5 where the stern but pleasant interviewer stood with my file. She took my fingerprints via the scanner and proceeded to ask me the following questions:

You seem to know your way around have you been here before,I said no, and sure this place is pretty small, she smiled
How and where did you meet?
How did you propose?
Where did you propose?
How much was the ring?
When did you get married?
What date? ( I said 26th but She kept repeating different dates back to me like 25th,24th, I'm not sure if she was trying to see if I'd slip up but it was awkward ;-)
Where we got married, how many people there?
Have we considered living in Ireland?
Do we have any children? (I said no but I may be in danger when I get back, she laughed and loosened up after this as she saw that I wasn't nervous)
When was the last time I went to the US?
When was the last time I saw her here in Ireland?
What exactly does she do for work?
What do I intend to do for work?
Where we intend to live?
She looked for my medical info then and it wasn't to be found so I gave to her from the sealed envelope and she quickly scolded the first lady I had talked to for this.
Have you ever been arrested or convicted in Ireland or the US?
Have you ever been in trouble with immigration or overstayed on a tourist visa?
She scanned my file for a minute then said "that's it,if everything you have told me here checks out,you can expect your passport and authorization in the post in about 6 days'

Overall everyone was nice and relatively pleasant, it was a far less intimidating experience than I had imagined. I do not suggest that you try and joke with your interviewer,I did because she seemed like she was nice, I would however say try not to be too nervous,I know it's not easy but really if all your ducks are in a row there's really no need,I have had scarier job interviews

(I must reiterate again here that the guy closest to me was not very prepared for even this part of the embassy experience and I felt for him as he was faltering on the information she was looking for, couldn't understand what documents she was looking for etc. I just followed the guides here meticulously and I believe it was so much quicker and easier when it came to it. He was there before I arrived and still there when I left)

Hope this helps
Good luck on the rest of your journeys
Cheers
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
