Consulate Review: Ghana Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa Event Description Review Date : November 7, 2012 Embassy Review : I am posting this for my husband who is a Nigerian citizen legally living in Ghana: He arrived at the embassy at 7am for his appointment time of 7:30. At that point there were already over 100 people in the hall. He checked in and waited to be called. It was very crowed and there were not enough seats for all those waiting. The CO's started calling names right away. He waited until 10am before his name was called.While waiting he saw many denials; DV, K1, IR1 etc. He said the other peoples packets were small(ie not front loaded (Thank you VJ)); didn't have the proper documentation; had gotten married after winning the DV etc. The CO at window 3 called and gave him the oath. She suddenly stopped typing and looked him in the eye for a long moment. He didn't flinch or get nervous or squirm, she then continued typing and asked for his documents. He gave her his passport, and medical report. She then asked for his additional proof from the file he had in hand(he had a duplicate in an accordion file). He gave her emails; chats both logs and full conversations from yahoo, Gmail and, Skype. She asked for the divorce documents. We had front loaded the application but she couldn't find the divorce decrees so it was lucky he had an identical copy of our package. He told her he had a certified copy and gave it to her however she eventually found the original. She returned all of the pictures that we had taken with our friends and family and focused on the ones with only us. These are the questions asked: What is your wife's name? What is your father's name? Where did you get married?(she was surprised we were married in the USA) What city did you get married in? What date(this was asked twice)? Last date of his visit to Lagos? She asked why was he in Africa instead of USA where we married. He said the whole interview was about 10 minutes. To those coming up you need to prepare your spouse/fiance very well. They need to appear confident and knowledgeable about ALL things involving your relationship. We had mock "interviews" and he repeated practiced his answers out loud, reviewed his facts and was ready for all possible questions. It is very true when they say you have less than 7 minutes to make an impression. These interviews are extremely stressful knowing all facts eliminates fumbling and stumbling.
