Consulate Review: Dominican Republic

Event Description

Embassy Review : First of all thanks to everyone’s good thoughts on my VJ.

I will try to make this as detailed as possible because not all consulates work the same.

We went to Santo Domingo on Thursday morning to pick up my fiancées medical exam results as instructed to do so the day before her appointment. We were at the consultorio de visas for no more than 5 minutes. Super fast. !! So the Next morning we got up early our Appointment was at 6:00am. We walked to the consulate from our hotel. (Hotel Jardines del Teatro is one block away). When we got to the corner there were a few hustlers in the street trying to get us to use there "services" claiming that you need to staple your 2x2 pics to the forms which is total BS. Just say no thanks!!! So it was 515am and there were about 60 people there in line. BTW there is a police officer that will tell you which line you most form. At 615am we get in. we sit down until about 8am when my fiancées name is finally called. We proceed to window 24. There we submitted all the forms, Birth certificate, 2- 2x2 pics, Medical results, Police report, tax paid to Banco Popular and her passport. She gives us a number and tells us to go pay the visa fee at window 12. We did that and sat down. Later on her number was called again to window 13 for finger prints around 9am. Again we sat down and from where we were sitting we could see a few windows both were the interviews are being done. At window 18 there was a couple that seemed to be having a bit of an argument among each other. After a few minutes they did not look happy. I guess they were denied. Now I was worried. I told my fiancée " I hope we dont go to him".. Well Around 945am Her number gets called to WINDOW 18!!!! NOOOOOO! So I said here we go! When we approached the window we said good morning. The consul said hello in a very serious tone. He asked us to raise our right hand and ask us to swear that we were going to tell the truth.. jada jada jada. So He asked me for my passport. Then some questions like what do I do? Where Do I live? Where did we meet? Any conversation towards me he spoke only in English. Then he asked her If she had ever been in any trouble with the police. (In Spanish) She answered No. So now he told me sooooo your fiancée is 19 yrs old and you are 34 yrs old? In a sarcastic tone... I said yes! He looked at me weird. Then he asked you have any pictures? I gave him an envelope with about 40 pics. He went thru them and stops and looks at one picture and asked her .. Is this your house? Who is that? Your dad? She said No my Grandfather.. He said ohh ok. He pointed and her mom.. She said that’s my mother.. He took the stack of pictures and some other stuff and tossed them thru the window slot. And said the magic Words!!!!!! IM DONE HERE ! YOUR VISA IS APPROVED. We couldn't believe it. We gave each other a kiss and a hug.

It was nerve wrecking.. I thought that he was bitter from the previous couple that was there. I’m just thankful that everything went well.

Thank you VJ for all the great info and to the member support.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
